ASW Ops ???
As a really new player in the Sub Game World, I have been seeking my particular place. In D/W I understand there is Frigate Anti-Bus Warfare. As a retired 'surface' sailor I think this would be very interesting. What I'd like to know is if the ASW in D/W is really ASW, or just a 'side show' part of primarily Submarine Operations ??

Dangerous Waters fully integrates the subsurface, surface, and airborn battlespace.
The game is focused primarily around ASW, with a sophisticated sonar model and many playable and non-playable submarines, although there is also the strong presence of ASuW and land strikes as well. The FFG, P-3, and MH60 are well done additions to the Sub Command nukes, Akula, 688i, and SeaWolf, and the Kilo diesel sub in particular is fantastic. So, to answer your question, the FFG is an equal part of DW. |
The frigate is the most complex platform in the game and is a lot of fun to drive, and can really be a match for the subs, particularly employed in standoff ASW.
In short, I'm a real life surface ASW guy and I give it a thumbs up. I drive it a LOT more often than any of the subs. |
Yes, the frigate is great for ASW work. They took some liberties with the weapons systems they gave the perry in the game, but I feel it adds to the balance of gameplay, it would not be very fun to drive a ship with absolutely no armament other than mk 50 torpedos and 2 helicopters..!
As it is, the ffg 7 is an EXCELLENT platform for ASW in DW. |
Sold me..... Thanks a lot, fellows...

Anti-Bus.... Hmmmm, looks like I got my tongue in front of my Eye-tooth and couldn't see what I was typing.....
Anti-Bus... yeah... and any other Large, Rectangular Wheeled gizmo on the road...holding up traffic. But here, I think is it ANTI-SUB .... Like you didn't know that... ;) |

I am also a retired 'surface' sailor ;), I was a ASW chief on a german destroyer in the eighties and did many ASW exercises with other NATO partners in the Atlantic and Mediterranean and can say that the ASW part of DW is well implemented in the boundaries of a sim game. |
Yessir.... My copy is on it's way to me... In the meantime, I am becoming more proficient in 688(i).... Having finally decided against pursing SH3...
I think is it coming together... |
There's a couple things about the sim that might irk you... so make sure you check out the LWAMI Mod (link at the bottom of my signature) once you want to "up the ante".

Uhh... thanks, but that's a whole pile of threads ! I'll study that Site when I get to it...
Regards your reply, is there anything specific ??? |

It really depends on the person and what they are looking to get out of the game. If torpedoes exploding on disposable countermeasures doesn't bother you, then I wouldn't worry about the mod. If it does bother you, then when you get some time check it out... but don't worry about it, if you just have time to learn the game, then do that and have fun and if it becomes a hobby or want to have a new gaming experience, then look at LWAMI. It really depends on you. :) Cheers, David |
