Socceroos beat European Champions Greece 1-0

Our Aussie boys first World Cup warm up match proved a promising success against the current European Champions Greece this evening in Melbourne. Next game is against the Dutch in Rotterdam on June 4 followed finally by a match against Liechtenstein in Ulm, Germany, on June 7. After that the serious action begins. :D

As someone who had never been a football (soccer) fan before I must say that I am really looking forward to this World Cup in Germany.

Hmm...are we seeing a shift in Australian sporting talent from cricket to football? I think we should be told.

As I so often said - Europe is falling: now even kangaroo-eaters can kick us around  :-j

:rotfl: :rotfl:

But I expect the Dutch to give us a more thorough examination in a little over a weeks time. For now though I am one happy Aussie far away from home surrounded by English men and women yearning for another World Cup victory after such a long drought. I have to say I am tired of hearing about Wayne bloody Rooney every five minutes. :damn: Is England really a one man team? :D

Take care English food doesn't kill you before you have found out. :-j

Actually I don't think English food is that bad at all. Sure the fresh seafood back home is fantastic but the Brits sometimes underestimate just how good some of their natural local produce and seafood is. There are some great pub restaurants scattered across the UK.

Meat pies, sausage rolls and above all the English breakfast can hardly be described as anything less than culinary masterpieces.

That's only because the Socceroos have arguably the best coach around, the - Dutchman - Guus Hiddink who brought South Korea to the semi-finals four years ago.
Actually I think there are 4 Dutch coaches participating with teams in this World Cup; Marco van Basten leading the Dutch, Guus Hiddink, Dik Advocaat (South Korea) en Leo Beenhakker (Trinidad & Tobago).

Hehe...I was wondering how long it would take for this to be pointed out by a Dutchman. :rotfl:

But I agree 100%.

So do I. The talent was always there, but only he succeeded in unlocking it. Guus deserves all the credit.

I noticed on TV one person in the crowd wearing a shirt with quite an appropriate slogan on it: "No Guus, No Glory".

I assume he also invented the ball, designed the rules, tended the grass, made the goal rectangualr and is the true father of Franz Beckenbauer? :88) In the beginning there was nothing, only the spirit of Hiddink was floating above the water. :-j Australia should be banned for abusing superstitious assistance.
