in need of Bernard Modern Roman font

for some reasons, every couple of months or years my font folder is loosing one or two fonts for texts in which I have used them. the last time this happened it was the Papyrus font. Now the Bernard Modern Roman font is gone - used in a text of 90 pages, the layout is completely messed up. Great.

Could anyone send me that font per email please? and does anyone know why Word or Windows is forgetting or deleting fonts occasionally?

Thanks a lot.

Hi Skybird,

=3. Disappearing Fonts - On a Windows XP system someone reported that some fonts they installed disappeared upon shutting down and rebooting. A suggestion was made to activate the Read-Only attribute. To this end open the Windows Explorer, go to C:\Windows\Fonts, select the font and right click, left click on Attributes; there's a check box to activate the Read-Only attribute.
*link removed* those who downloaded the font be warned that you owe me 20 bucks. The money can be delivered into my swiss bank account :rotfl:

Cheers!

Thanks for the will, but the rar-file contains several fonts, none of them is "Bernard Modern Roman". Bernhard is not the same as Bernard :) The fonts included in the RAR are even not close to it in format and layout. Sorry, but they do not help. Layout is hurt even more.

I recently changed from Word97 to Word2002, maybe that has something to do with it? Everyone still using Word97 really should have it in his font-folder.

Anyone else, please?

SB, I turned the internet upsidedown and could find the damned font mate! How did it look like?

Gizzmoe 05-25-06 04:29 AM

"Bernhard Modern Roman" is a commercial font.

Yes.

And how can something suddenly be claimed as commercial, when it has been come with software from Microsoft since many years? I used it since Windows98 and word97. Does someone stray along, take something that is very old (I think the font has been designed in the early 30s, I once red) and that is not his own, nevertheless claim that now IT IS his own, installs a tool on my system and delete it from my HD...???

It not the first time this happens. Happened with another font last year, and with a third font I used in that text in question this time, I only used it to design huge introduction letters at the beginning of chapters. That one is gone, too.

I never have bought separate fonts and installed them! It is stupid to buy a font, when you already have plenty in our folder. And all fonts that you can find in your folder, you can also buy for 20-25 dollars at some site, even Arial and other often used standard fonts. It is ridiculous. Seen that way, ALL fonts in your font folder are "commercial".

Is there a way to extract the fonts from the Windows 98 or word 97 CD without installing the software? Two word version do not coexist, unfortunately. i learned that when changing to Word2002.

JJ 05-25-06 06:37 AM

It probably installs itself with some software and remains somewhere inside the dll's. I can't locate that font from my computer either. Photoshop recognizes it but Word doesn't. Obviously Word uses only what it finds from the Fonts folder... go figure :dead:

Its prolly bin renamed which happens all the dang time and is a pita.

Here is a link to a site that might help you.

Good luck.

While it might come as a bit of a surprise to those who have only seen CD-R versions of Microsoft software, they are, in fact, available as commercial products. ;)

More specifically, a lot of the fonts in offices are licensed from commercial font designers. Also, old fonts are not always available for immediate use in computer programs, so some companies make digital versions based on the old designs (which can be complicated and time-consuming if it also has to be readable at low resolutions), and then sell them.

Legal protection is a different matter. The exact nature of the laws applying to typefaces, and what exactly is covered, varies. Searching for them and downloading without paying may or may not be legal, and you might need a specialist to determine this. Doesn't matter, as you already have them, just need some way to get them from the CD, right? If that installer stores its stuff in CAB files, this might help:

.

You think maybe a newer version of Word removed it?

I also lost the Papyrus font last year (and found a replacement), and back then I was using winXP like today, and Word97 (with which all my texts until march this year had been written).

So far two guys have sent me a Bernhard Modern Roman font, while I need Bernard (without h) Modern Roman, which looks very similiar, but the design is different in sizes. berhard and Bernard fonts looks very similiar, but they are not the same series. At same font size, the text size grows from 93 to 98 pages, and still vital text formatting is messed up, cannot be cured by simply adjustijng font size: none of the sizes matches. It's a different font.

Back then (Papyrus-event) I assumed that the font was deleted intentionally by any Windows-update, becasue the font was no longer available as a free font, anymore. If this is true, i consider this to be slippery business-doing by font-companies that claim the rights now for somethign that has been there for years and that they have not produced themselves.

Unfortunately I have done several texts with that font, BMR. It's a good looking one. Noone has it? That is strange, isn't it. We do not talk about an separate downloaded addon I installed separately. I used to have it there always, since many years.

The Nupital BT font also has dissappeared. Thank God I only used it for creating major capital letters (Absatzinitiale) at the beginning of new chapters. Nevertheless, since years it was there, came with Win98 and Word97 - and now it is not there anymore.

Imagoine a bureau, and they do all office work with a given font, for years. then suddenly the font is deleted and some company claims payment for it, years later - if you do not want to buy it six years later, you need to reformat all documents from those six years. This cannot be meant serious, eh?
