Arts & Hobby thread ?
You all red Neals proclamation of publishing a book made by authors from the community adding their works to it. He also invited me to write (what else) for it.
However, this is a no-go for me, because it is foreign langauge: English. It is one thing to write a non.-fictioonal text, a review or an essay and work around verbal problems I run into. Prose, or fictional writing, is something different , because it needs more skills and control of the many nuance of a language. I had two attemots, and failed in both. However, I had an idea, and this thread is in agreement with Neal whom I asked of his opinion. I asusme many of us have their hobbies in the field of arts, and not only limited to the field of naval themes. Some may do music. Or paintings. Some may draw cartoons and carricatures. Some may be pros in photography. others write short stories, or poems, or novels. And we are an multi-lingual audience here. Why not having maybe even two threads, one "stage" thread, and one "lounge" thread, maybe stickied. In the stage thread, everyone can pick one posting space to present himself "on stage": he may link to his latest bestseller novel, or the latest tunes he composed and set up for download somehwhere. Or he posts some poems, or two links to thsoe two short stories he think to be his masterpieces so far. Even more, where it is no picture and music-related work, textworks can be given in original mother-tongue, which may leave exclusively English-speakers out, but may be interesting for others who undersatand that language. It is not about abusing the forum as a place where you can set up all and everthing you ever painted, composed, wrote, or photographed (filmed, I forgot that one!), but only the highlights, the few little things on your collection you are especially proud of, and would like to share. Of course, you also can post results from work in two or three artistic hobbies you are engaged in, for example music and poems, or text works and photography (like for me). Let's see if we can find some enthusiasm for this idea in this place. |
Sure bring it on mate! Im all about arts

Good idea! I'm into photography, and am willing to sell some of what I've done, but it's tough getting exposure and feedback when you're starting out. It'd be great to have a place to put a few (small file size) samples.

Cool idea....I've always thought of this place as a kinda mini "UN"...where eveyones opinions, cultures are expressed with passion. I will step up and help out anyone who requests help in presenting there talent/hobbie or whatever and offer my skills and resources that are available to me. I have web space available to me as well as editing software and can present things via webpages, flash, windows media and probably a few others. :)
Let me know ... P.S. to Deep Six's post above...I go to a site called renderosity.com and they let you create your own place to post your work for free....an awesome place to meet other artisits ...show your work, and get tips, and ideas...just an awesome site I have been a part of for years for the more serious artistis or anyone jsut looking for killer backgrounds. |

GMAX (and 3D modeling in general) is still an impenetrable forest to me. My guess is you'll be able to do just about anything you want to do at this point using GMAX (including, I think, animation) - but in the long run, assuming you really like doing this sort of thing, you'll be glad you have 3DS Max.

At the time of writing this, 68% pro, 31% contra, n=16. Let's wait some longer, this day maybe, and then see.

I start a new thread now.

How about knitting? What about a poll to find out how many people here are English knitters or Continental knitters? ;) :D

Yeah, my thoughts, too. I've got GMAX but never have really delved into it - looks like lots of help available through that site; maybe I'll figure it out after all!
