Sunken ship icon colour

Hey guys,

I've just popped into Loch Ewe to cause some havoc and I've noticed that some of the ships I've destroyed are showing up as grey icons on the map instead of the usual red

They were all clean enemy kills and they show up fine in my log.

Any ideas?

Don't know :dead: ... I have seen that too... I thought they sunk by themself but I helped them with a torpedo or a few deck gun shells .... also got credit for the kill in my logs ..... Been a few however that turned gray and never knew what they was .....

Ive seen this too. I noticed that any boats of war in harbor that ive destroyed have shown signs of life beforehands. Lights on, pinging, etc. These show up as red when sunk. Quiet, loneley cargos have shown up grey. :hmm:

Grey usually means unidentified. At least thats how the game treats icon colors. Neutral is green, red is hostile, grey is an unidenfitifed or... arguably the keyword here... Uncomfirmed target. usualy only happends if you manage some super shot in rough weather where the ship never came fully into view.

Yep. Say for instance you fire at a ship hidden by the rain (by using the auto-targeting/lock "cheat") and sink it - odds are it'll show up grey on your map.

Strange thing!
I've never saw one of those in my game before...only on other Kaleuns Log-Screens.
How do they show up/ how do i make them show up. I play at 100%

GW/NYGM :hmm:

Come to think of it... the weather was rather bad. I could however clearly see the ship and it's flag. It was definately British.

I know one time I was just off coast of west Britian and a fishing boat passed my area .. It was really bad sea's and not a god idea to be out there in that small boat .. he didn't make it and I guess the sea swallowed him ... his icon turned grey to show where he went down ............

I've noticed that in rough seas, the Elco torpedo boats almost always sink on their own and leave grey icons behind.

I've noticed this on occasion, too. There's a little bit of a "gap" between what you can actually see and what the game *thinks* you can see. The other time I notice this is when the occasional coastal merchat or convoy straggler sinks on its own. If you have exterior cam enabled, you might fly over and watch it sink, but the game might think you're too far away to have seen it.

Kinda confusing, I know.

I don't think it's got to do with seeing or not.
I was in a terrible Storm in the Atlantic trying to chase lone ships by listening. Two of them sunk before I even got close or seen them with the gray icon. I guess it was the weather? lol...

my brother is pretty "up" on sh3 and he told me its grey because it got sunk by natural causes i.e weather collision with another ship etc i was once passing a fishing boat and didnt want to waste my ammo on it, as i was passing it in rough weather it sunk on its own

Nothing "natural" about me sneaking in and sinking them! :arrgh!:

The only time I have ever seen grey is on an Allied ship that sinks without my imput (IE beaching).
