The Basil Cathedral I'd go for, at least it's not a ruin like some of the items presented there. I don't think putting wall of china and such really is justified.

I find it strange that the Eiffel Tower was included, and yet Notre Dame Cathedral was not, as I find it to be far more impressive and imposing, and would have certianly included it in my top seven.

Who said some bastard organization can decide the new seven wonders of the world and put what they find fitting to vote?! Who are they?! What are the credentials of this bunch of adventurers?!

As Takeda said, who voted the Eiffel over the Notre Dame? Because one symbolizes the glorious new future of the machine-men versus the reactionary useless Church?

If one wants to protect humankind's heritage across the globe, one must not forget of such heritage, forgetting about the 7 Wonders and starting to worship New 7 Wonders - now with improved flavours! Mint, and Fresh Mint! Buy 3 and take 4! Only this week for 19,99! Don't miss this opportunity! - is a disservice to the project.

This Swiss is nuts, or isn't trying hard enough. Well, I suppose "adventurers" aren't the primary keepers of humankind's heritage, i expect too much, I must lower my standards and accept his mediocrity, who else will protect humankind's heritage afterall?

I fear when dreams become reality, hell is full of good intentions, I believe dreams belong to their realm and reality to another, dreams can be the door of the subconcious mind, if you interpret them wrongly, or in other words, if you dream wrong, you'll wake up wishing to assassinate your mother. Now look at the sickening historical determinism: "the globe joins together to celebrate the New 7 Wonders of the World, as chosen by the world's population using modern communications technology." - look how impressive the machine-men have become! We now have modern communications technology! Our choice must be better, it's legitimized by the global population! And it uses modern communications technology, did I mentioned that already? - "You can join the N7W Society now. Become an official part of this dynamic community and support this historic project." - the project to end all projects! Today we make history! A new step for mankind, turn the old page, no, rip it off, it doesn't matter anymore, we are writing the new page, the next step, we create, we know the future, we decide the future.

I would like to write in a vote for the Saturn V rockets on display at the Johnson Space Center, Kennedy Space Center, and the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. Far more useful objects than most of whats on their list. ;)

I agree. I'd also vote for the lunar and Mars landers. They might not be wonders on our world but they are of our world.

In that spirt I would also add the Pioneer 10, Voyager I and II probes to the list. The most distant emissaries of humanity in the universe. :up:

Kidding aside, I second the votes for the lunar landers, Viking I and II, and especially the Mars Rover.

I'd also add the famous (or infamous, depending on your point of view) "Mars Meteorite" (ALH84001). It may yet prove to be the biggest wonder in history.

How do they put something like the Eiffel Tower next to something like the Taj Mahal? Are these guys really serious? It would be impoossible to build something like the Taj Mahal in modern day construction - the cost would be astronimical!
