Transfers

Must admit that I've been playing SH3 a year and have never trasferred between ports yet.

Is it true that you're automatically "warped" to the new port? Is there a way (a hack) around this?

ports

so you are always based in Kiel or Wilhelmshaven ? i normally transfer manually by using the phone when the bay of biscay bases come available - no more Kiel canal or English channel - yay lol

I have done the telephone transfer thing a couple of times ... my transfers were always approved but I still had to load boat and leave from old port .. Once under way I would get a radio message telling me my base had changed and I needed to end patrol there ..

Bay of biscay for me french wine and all the rest is one phone call away. :)

I am always automatically transfered to a Biscay base in the autumn of 1940. I then wait until I can transfer to Bergen.

Sometimes you get a message: "The base was changed to: ____" and then you're sent out on patrol and simply return to a new port. Other times though you do get "beamed" to a new location. Don't know yet if one of the mods fixes this or not.

"The base was changed to: _____" is usually the message i always get before i load up a patrol. Ive never been warped before, and in Stock SH3 or Rub 1.45 i recieved a couple "change base" messages via the radio.. Those are awesome, but i havent gotten those lately. But i dont ever remember being warped before.

Thanks for the replies. I'm in the Med, based out of Toloun, but the Med is about to "close".
It's into '44 now...

The flotilla will be disolved in a few months time and I'm wondering how to handle it.

My warp question came about because I thought I'd read here in the forums instances where people were denied the pleasure of the Gibralter crossing because they requested a transfer to the Med and were suddenly "warped" there.

I'm thinking of requesting a transfer to Norway but want to make sure I have the pleasure of escaping myself ... no warping!

I hate warping. I had exactly the same situation as you - transfering out of med soon, and wanting to make the run. I think the trick is to get the transfer in mid patrol. You get a radio message (in NYGM tW at least), to make a run for it, or scuttle your boat. This would be very cool. However, if that date occurs when you are at port, it's warp time. So, cheat, steal and lie so that you can be at sea for that critical time. Sorry that I don't know exactly when that is. Someone here probably does though...

I never survived in the Med long enough to get to the breakout point. Wonder what happens?? Do you just get ordered to another patrol zone early or get any indication of a breakout via radio reports? Does Toulon get bombed like in the french bases in 1944?? Or is it just like any other transfer??

I was warped to Bergen when I switched from the 7th (Bay of Biscay) to the 11th. But in that case, I could have stayed with the 7th until it moved to Bergen; I just didn't wait. Wonder if that's what causes the warp - you only warp if you switch flotilla and base at the same time. ???

Is there a mod that will allow you to change your base and flotilla without fumbling through all the files manually?

bountyhunter ... Just use the telephone on your desk when in port before or after a patrol .... not a good idea to try to reconfigure your game files.. I tried once to do that and had to uninstall and start all over again because I corrupted my game files ... unless you know what your doing of course..... by the way... welcome aboard ..... sink im all

Yeah I changed flotillas for the first time from the 1st to the 2nd and got warped from Brest to Lorient. I really wanted to try a different boat. By the time I bought the IX and all the trimmings I had also been warped ahead in time. Too bad you have to buy everything again - couldn't take it on the train I guess.

Heffalump 05-08-06 03:37 PM

warping

Jeez, if i wanted star trek I would have bought the game. :(

I'll have a go on the telephone when I return from patrol and see what happens.

For the record, does anyone know if this is editable via the cfg files? I see some relevant data in them, but am not sure if it's so simple as that.
