plotting enemy ships course accurately

I use full manual targetting and use the markers that I place on the map in 3min 15sec increments for calculating their speed to get a somewhat accurate course for where the ship is heading, but i'm just wondering if there are more accurate methods going around to plot an exact course for ships you encounter?

You can increase accuracy by taking more readings,
or - you might not like this - using the watch officer's automagic range readings if you're on the surface.

real life

While it is true that a captain would be able to do the range calculations and plotting of firing positions himself, he has a crew and officers trained and tasked with plotting.

In real life the captain would make use of his officers, while using his own knowledge to estimate for preliminary planning and to judge the accuracy of his officers calculation.

Many players complain about having to micromanage the crew fatigue issues, yet want to micromanage the plot. To each his own.

Agreed. But when the officers take mere seconds to compute a rather complicated trigonometry problem, and do it fairlly accurate, it kills all the fun imho.

Agree with GreyOctober: Weapons Officer Assistance would be a lot better if it took a lot longer and was less accurate.

I dont know if its just me but when i used the weapon officer he was rubbish.
The torpedoes always passed behind the ship (probably due to the ship spotting them). I eventually got tired of this and thats why i do it myself now.
