GW and and my quest for 100% realism

So I have the GW mod loaded with 100% set on the game and I am playing SHIII but I sit back and think 'is this really 100% realism?' Well, I am doing all the manual targeting and such but is it really 100% realism? I say 'no' so I decide to change one little thing that no one else is really talking about. I change the language from english to german (but keep the english subtitles, I cant read german). So this is 100% realism.

I try out my new found glory and behold, I get something new. What is it? Well, you have to take the plunge and find out. Only those who are running with german speech will know what I am talking about.

And yes it does add to the realism.

Trust me when I say that you will never want to switch to English. I only recently switched over to the German language settings and it really does make a big difference to the immersion factor and the sense of realism. :yep:

I can't imagine anyone wanting to play this game and NOT having German speech turned on. This thread seemed a bit odd as I would have expect 95% of the people to already be doing this.

Well I'm in the 5% catogary. I deleted all german files out of SH3. I can't read german, I sure as hell don't speak german, so why would I listern to it?

To me its just junk taking up space, so out it go's!

Hmm,

Well I guess I'm in the minority then, I've used German speech almost from the beginning for the same reasons described here, but I recently switched back. The reason being I don't understand German, (I always read the subtitles) but I wanted to ditch the whole bottom information bar. I find now that I enjoy having to get information off the actual gauges rather than everything being at a glance, and of course now I can get info from my crew without having to read the translation. That big bar taking up a bunch of room on the screen is, in my opinion, a much bigger immersion-killer.

I kind of miss the old "ALAARRRM!" on the crash dives, but I don't really see the need to crash dive that often anyway.

Thats a funny thing really. I usually buy original games ,and not localized ones here in Germany, due to the fact that the english original sound better -done better-.
Here i gotta say that the english doesn't cut. :hmm:

LOL anyway i gotta say playin Silent Hunter 3 with english Voices is like Robert Redford playin Kaleun in Das Boot lol! I tried it once, was freaked. lol!
:rotfl:

Played with German speech since beginning. I was tried the english track in Das Boot and omg was it terrible.

Razman23 04-16-06 05:59 AM

Yes, the german speech really does make it feel more real but there is something I didnt expect.

It involves the 'message received' announcment that you get every once in a while.

In the english version, all you hear is 'message received'. In the german version, you hear something else before you hear 'message received'. I was surprised of difference between the two.

Hello,
well, i used german speech right from the beginning - but since i'm german this is no surprise lol. I would never play B 17 in any other but english language though, immersion, that is. Playing a russian sim would sure get me some problems :-?. But i like the sound of the speech in an IL2 from "IL2 Forgotten Battles" as well as in an Akula from "Sub command".
Greetings and happy easter,
Catfish

Me also uses german speech in SH3. What a suprise, since I´m a Kraut too :D

But I must admit, I have tuned my speech files with voices from the "Das Boot" movie... For example I love the yell of Ralf Richter during crashdive, "Alaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarm, fluuuuuuuten!!!"

For attack runs I have on my grammophone the track named "Konvoi" from Klaus Doldingers Music CD. For those who can´t figure out which one it is, it´s the music played during the surface run against the convoy and the run towards the african coast in gibraltar after the air attack. This music simply rockz

When you run at flank speed at night against a convoy with this music.... s shiver running down your spine is for sure :D
