Time Compression Worked Best in SHI

With SH IV in the works, I wanted to mention an issue that has bugged me for a while...

I used to play the classic SHI a lot, and the time compression would always flawlessly kick you into real time if there was any type of contact, at any level of compression. Both SHII and SHIII share the problem that at high rates of compression you risk being rammed by an enemy destroyer by the time the compression shuts off! personally, I don't enjoy sailing my Type IX to the USA on 125X...

I hope that this may be addressed with SHIV!

Good point, I also don't enjoy getting the message "killed in action by aircraft" when sailing at 1024x...

I fully agree about SH1.

There is a fix for this issue in SH3. It is very simple fix, and makes the world of difference in gameplay. I think you can use the MiniTweaker to fix it also.

Go into SH3/DATA/SIM

Change Visual Sensitivity from .01 to .02.

This makes contacts appear at the correct distance.

For instance

With a qualified compartment crew you will:

1. In good visibility watch crew will notice aircraft in time to dive
safely.

2. In poor visibility watch crew will notice aircraft in time to dive with damage, and you may possibly be kia'd.

3. In heavy fog if attacked by aircraft you are dead meat.

Also remember, just like in SH1, heavy fog is a killer. Many times in SH1 and Silent Service I came out of time compression only to be rammed by an IJN destroyer. So since about 1987 I never travel on the surface in heavy fog.

Do you mean the sim.cfg file in sh3/cfg/sim.cfg?

I'm at work, so I can't say for sure right now.

But I know it is in the SIM file.

Using the hydrophone rules from Uboat Commanders Handbook, I go on many 8 week patrols. Before the fix, the game was in retrospect virtually unplayable.

Has anyone else tried this? It appears to make the TC work perfectly.

Bump!

Has anybody else tried this? Sounds interesting...
