Can the Corvette and Black Swan really be that tough to sink
First I,m using the GW mod, it has provided me with a new lease on wanting to play the game again, just a couple of ? though,
I started a new career starting around 1940 with the IXB and I have run into a convoy with mostly corvettes and Black Swan Frigates and a couple J class destroyers and a Fuji class, any way I decided to go around and ahead of them so I could meet them head on, I started heading toward them at around 1200 am at periscope depth and met up with a black Swan Frigate. and made My save point, I fired 1 torpedo and hit and since he was way ahead of the group I decided to finish him off with a deck gun,..I hit him at least 20 times on the hull, the deck etc and he never ever sank, he finally did stop and sank to about 3 feet from the deck line but that was it, he still had full function of all deck guns and also flares, so by this time I had a corvette coming at me and went to periscope depth, headed toward him and got him with 1 torpedo he turned and I got him in the side with a second and he never went down, if it weren't for the fire I wouldn't have noticed that he was even hit, all guns were functioning as well as depth charges.. I have replayed this save spot over and over and still the same results, I emptied my whole supply at of torpedo's at one point and only had a small merchant to show for it with more than several damaged ships running around like nothing ever happened to them,, I had one other issue happen also, it seems my hydrophone won't pick up any thing unless it dam good and ready to, The Black swan I had coming at me could not be picked up at 1500 M, but it did recognize a merchant at 6500 M some how, I don't want to be a complainer I really like the mod as a matter of fact I practically file to file had all of the graphics .TGA files already loaded in my last game, any way and thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated Danke |
You know what i do to black swan frig. and flower corvets...???
First i atract their atention on surface and the best way is to fire a deck gun shot orwhen they spot you dive, then i let them come closer and at around 2000 meters i turn and give mi ass to them, and run at full speed ahead... The result is that they ear me detect me and usually come after me, let them come close and with help of the periscope that i raise just enought for them to see it well i aline the sub to have a perfect hit with mi back torpedo, when they are around 500 /600 meters i fire mi torp, and usualy the enemy ship blows up in flames or if not sink imidiatly it will some minutes later... |
Hi Krieg-Schwein... this thread-link should explain a few things... including the most effective use of the deck gun.

With grey wolves they have stopped going off though... I have used the external camera to confirm, and the torps glide right under without blowing up. Last time this happened I obvoiusly had to dive really quickly... but about two minutes later the stray torpedo I had already forgotten about hit a merchant in the convoy! So it wasn't a total loss. Still, the torps aint blowing up under the escorts keels!? |
Thanks for the help!
Unfortunately the torpedo's are blowing up on impact except for the occasional dud OR possibly the dud is hitting and going underneath like yours did but to be honest I'm not a 100% player and part of what I like to do is see whats happening and watch the torpedo blow up etc.. and take screen shot for my screen saver but any way the torpedo's I was talking about were blowing up so thats why I find it so unusual that 2 torpedo 1 in the front and 1 in the side won't sink a Corvette, I realize that the game had a Tiger Tank U Boat before but I hope it wasn't replaced with a Tiger Tank target Thanks! |

The trigering and the amount of failures for the magnetic pistol are within the EXE or ACT files. SO my view is that it was just too deep or bad luck or too far forward on the vessel. |

Thats what i thought at the begining it was to deep maybe, Cause i allready sunked a flower corvete with the unified campaigne on GW using the metod i explained... |
Hmm, not sure why my ships are so tough..I did put a torp in a Corvette used the deck gun on the waterline of the ship and it sunk with only 15 shells..
Then I went after a Fuji and shot a spread of 3 torps from 500 M with all three hitting and exploding.. never phased it really, sank a couple of feet and went on its way like nothing ever happened, I had to go deep and silent to avoid the corvettes, and I sped up time and followed the Fuji in external view for hours and I guess it had a really awesome repair crew cause it never sank.. I gave up following it after 5 hours and went back to the sub and tried to hook up with the convoy again but never found them, Question..if he did sink will I get credit for it even though he was miles and miles away? OR do I need to follow the convoy till he sinks to get credit, I am not using any thing other than a clean install with the GW mod so I can't understand why I am having so much trouble sinking ships Danke |
The Sh3 engine has its own way of what I call "randimasaitions" (Spell check) I have ran in to all kinds of things that diden't add up :hmm:

I know my last post seemed sarcastic but I didn't mean it to be that way I really want to know If I would get credit for kill miles away? I just can't belive a Fuji class can take 3 direct torpedo hits and not sink.. |

Sadly, it was my last one (Typ IID). |
I,m all for the real ship sinking time model however it would be nice if when you Torpedo a ship that it would give you credit for sinking the ship if it was indeed eventually going to sink Or your weapons officer gave you a message on a round about amount of damage you have done to the ship so you don't waste your precious supply of Torpedo unnecessarily, maybe that is too unrealistic bit I think a real U-Boat captain would from experiance know if a ship was damaged enough to sink if he was able to get a look at it.

When I said "That's a no-no in the NYGM Damage model." I meant that the model does not take into account torpedos that impact exactly the same spot, ie flooding rate does not change.
Unless you fire 20 of them and the ship will eventually run out of it's (2160) hit points. |
