Has no one else ever come under fire from a de-fanged convoy?
I have. After sinking the lone escort with a VIIb in early 1940, I surfaced behind the convoy. Weather was absolutely outstanding; 0m/s wind, light fog, partially overcast, very early in the night.
I was nearly abrest with one of the ships at the far back of the convoy, and started firing. I was really looking to make some engine-room hits at the waterline and bring some boats to a complete halt, then run some perfect shots underneath them.
Came under fire. Hydrophones were completely clear of warships, and I used the external camera to check around to see what the hell was firing at me. It was either an invisible 2nd escort, or an armed merchant in the convoy.
Since then, I've learned my lesson. And judging from the screenshot of that passenger liner, attacking from directly astern wouldn't work, either. It's cases like that where the "neutral" status of a boat is......a little vague. :hmm:
