New DC Model!
(belated) April Fools :-j Still don't you wish it was true in THIS case?
http://www.warspite.dk/about_01.htm What would be really great would be if the Warspite class could have individually differentiated ships (some had the old tripod masts and superstructure, others had the box type one, some had aircraft amidships, some had boats, etc.) Isn't this a model that makes you drooly? Enjoy, Mountbatten |

Apart from that I'm a keen supporter of naval April jokes! :D |
Standing in a puddle of DROOL :o
As names go it's hard to beat these two DREADNAUGHT and VIRIBUS UNITIS. The latter sounds like it should be an Imperial Star Destroyer. Mountbatten |
Horsa, Glowworm, et al,
I think such beautiful models would bring my poor old 32 MB video card to its knees! For most surface actions I believe the current level of detail is just barely adequate, mostly because one is usually several thousand yards away. I have rarely had a problem determining target angle, at least when I could see them - Oh Please, somebody break the 12,000 yard visibility limit! The biggest problem I have with the stock DC models is that they look like toy boats. The hulls look like wedges chopped from a block of wood, gun turret shapes and locations are inaccurate and the model designers did not know what a gun director was. I would really like to see operable signal flags and signal lights, running lights, search lights and rotating radar antennae, to name a few. One can but hope... |
That's why I think the system's best current hope would be to adapt it for earlier or smaller scale conflicts - they really kept the darn thing at destroyer level (with the 12,000 yard visibility rule and all) but if there was a way to port stuff into the game like in Combat Flight Simulator we could at least simulate the Spanish-American or Russo-Japanese Wars.
Yeah those lovely ships would never run on my old clunker but who knows, in the future that might be old hat. Indeed, here's hoping... Mountbatten |

In another forum I found these links to a really awesome 3D work (our Italian friends will probably enjoy it) in two parts:
http://www.serafimov.com/public/phpB...wtopic.php?t=5 http://www.serafimov.com/public/phpB...opic.php?t=196 Explanations are in Spanish, but only because of the pics it's really worth checking, amazing piece of work. |
There is some lovely work going on around the world. :D
