GW water, Too dark!

I love watching my sub cruising underwater using ex. cam.
But can't do that in GW dark water.

Anyone know how to bring back stock underwater model
without using SH commander?

Thx!

If I'm not wrong... just replace GW data\Env\EnvColors_*.dat with SH3 stock and that should do it.

But backup those GW files before overwriting them.

Perhaps a GW guru might give you better answer

cheers

If you overwrite the Env files in GW you will lose other intended effects of the atmosphere mods in GW.

I recommend using SH3 commander because you can adjust the opacity of the water without changing other intentional changes.

I agree with the original post.

I wish mods would stop fiddling with the water clarity. The only explaination is to inhibit the use of the external camera. The water opacity does not prevent a ship from see the torpedo while it's enroute, because I have had too many ships spot an electric torpedo with RuB installed. If I want to "inhibit" the use of the external camera, I'll just refrain from hitting F12, v, or the comma key. Please don't do my job for me. :hmm:

As for Grey Wolves, I think you've pretty much got to use Commander to change the water clarity.

geralt 04-03-06 10:05 AM

use Minitweaker and set higher value UnderwaterFogEnd in scene.dat file (I think GW default is 7 so try 10-11 or more if you want)

mkubani 04-03-06 10:20 AM

I disagree here. GW water is very good imho and I am thankful for having the clarity reduced. Before I could actually avoid destroyers by watching them cruising on the surface. :nope:

midshipsnake 04-03-06 10:55 AM

Thank you all for replying.

I guess I'll try geralt's solution.

(Somehow I don't feel like to install and fiddle with
SH3 commander)

That's too bad. SHIII Commander is the single best tool for Silent Hunter III. If I had to give up every mod/tool but one, that's the one I'd keep.

It is certainly one of the best... and GW/SH3 Commander are fully compatible. :yep:

It is to stop the periscope being used under water to cheat!

It is easy to unrealistically use the periscope to see all around you and use this to avoid escort ships & sea mines.

Another option could of been if the player used the scope when underwater to see, couldn't the modders made it that the scope would be blacked out? Maybe the cause of it would of been Scope is flooded. :hmm: Then again that might include code to do this so maybe not so. Im sure SH2 had this, scope became flooded if you ever raised it when not at persicope depth. I know Dangerous Waters does.

In that way of thinking then would be better to also deactivate F12.

Because it also promotes the cheating not only by moving ahead the boat but also above water.

midshipsnake 04-03-06 03:58 PM

If people want to cheat, let them cheat.
What's the big deal? They're not playing in
some olympic game, you know.

Mods are great, but they shouldn't try
to dictate to others how the game should
be played.

Mods are supposed to add options so people
can use them as they see fit. Mods shouldn't take
away those options.

IMHO... :ping:

CCIP 04-03-06 04:40 PM

Yes, options are good - but please understand that mods promoting realistic tactics should have realistic water :yep:

For those who don't want it - well, suggestions have been given already.

Where you get that minitweaker? Thanks
