Problems with FX5200 vid card
I backdated drivers to 61.77 to allow black smoke, and it worked great :D
but now, the UZO is white and framerates drop to 0 :o  :damn:  Is there a way to fix this short of buying another vid card?? I have a p4 1.7Ghz, 1024 RAM, Nvida Gforce fx5200 vid card 128 RAM.... game is patched to v1.4 any help would be appreciated! |
only by using latest drivers...but, then you deal with white smoke again...so you have to alt tab alot in fullscreen and not look at sun to keep the black smoke...I rather have a working UZO than always having dark smoke..but, then again I rather have an ATI for this game...I don't even get blackened ship damage spots from the deck gun or on my uboat from other ships with 5200....you only get to see torpedo damage....

What about damage to sub? and holes in ships form deck gun rounds? do you get those? I do not. My friend in muliplayer said my uboat looked black after taking 2 hits from a enemy ship gun....I did not see black all I saw was my regular color....let me know...this always bugged me about 5200 as well...but, Im not sure if drivers fix this. I know latest drivers do not....I think ATI is only thing that lets you see everything the way it should be...

I remember playing one of the stock scenarios: U-505: After some pasting by escorts, I did see the starboard after portion near the diesel room "dirty"after surfacing, ...I thought at the time that it was damage..... :hmm:
Not 100% sure though...I will do further tests... How much is the ATI?? |
You can pick up a Geforce 6200 with 256mb of ram for around $60 Not the best of the new generation cards, but at least its a 6 series and works well with SH3. Has shader 3.0
AususTek are a good brand, theres so many of the 6200 cards just remeber to grab one that comes with the fan on it, some only have a heat sink, which will just get hot. |
Hi Mike, just in case you are not aware, make sure you get an AGP card, they are getting rare to find nowdays, most are PCI Express, try ebay, you can often get bargains for NEW items  , but be wary of second hand 3D Cards!!

Actually, there are a couple of really good AGP cards that have just been released, assuming you want to spend the money. The AGP version of the 6800 GS uses the same chip as the other 6800 cards, so it's possible (not guaranteed though) to be able to unlock the full 16 pipelines and 6 vertex shaders. I have one, paid $225 for it, it unlocked perfectly, and runs at 400 mhz clock speed. Basically I got a 6800 Ultra for $225. There is also the 7800 GS in AGP, but that's between $350 and $400.
