What version of the game do you have?...CD or STEAM?...

pwrmetal 03-15-06 10:11 AM

This isssue is not new to me. It seems STEAM players cannot play with the ones who's got the box version. Probably somebody can be more claer about that...

Jamie seems to be on the case ... tho I don't know any particulars.

My copy is the old patched-up version, and he connects fine to me.

You now this is very bizarre and I don't think its really a problem of DW.
For instance in my case when we were playing a match I couldn't connect to Oneshot and he couldn't connect to my server. The next day, the same computers, nothing modified with respect to the day before and everything worked fine. He could connect to me, and I could connect to his computer.
I've found other players that could connect to one player but not the other for non apparent reason (and has nothing to do with router configuration etc...)

It might helps to open up port 6073 in addition to the ports 2300-2400 that the DW Readme suggests (link to MS knowledgebase with the info).
  • ========================
    If using DirectX 8 or a later version...
    ========================
    Connection // Ports for Client Configuration // Ports for Host Configuration
    Initial UDP Connection // 6073 Outbound // 6073 Inbound
    Subsequent UDP Inbound // 2302-2400 // 2302-2400
    Subsequent UDP Outbound // 2302-2400 // 2302-2400

Not true, this is precisely the reason why it took such an extended period of time to release the v1.03 patch... Because we wanted to make sure that the Retail v1.03 patch and the Steam launch (also v1.03) were IDENTICAL executables and be able to play MP without a problem.

I've read the MS Knowledge base but I still haven't figured out how to open a port up when I don't have MS XP firewall enabled. The problem I have is when I have another computer connected to mine and I don't use a router at all, I can join a multiplayer game in DW but I cannot host a multiplayer game in DW.

Any ideas on this one?

Thanks for the new information Jamie. :)

That's why I was "vague" in my response and asked the aid of somebody more expert. In my online experience, I had problems with people who had STEAM versions. Anyway, I'm happy to know that it's not true and that there's a technical solution to that... :up:

Thanks Jamie, but this isnt actually new info.

Infact these are exactly the same ports that SC uses.

The info about needing to open up these ports was/has been posted all over the Battlefront forums and on here (both DW and SC forums).

Guess I should have looked at little closer at the readme file during and after testing :oops:

Know if i wanted to really confuse the matter, i would ask how come I can play DW online yet I have not opened any of these ports in my router (yes i can host and connect to others).
Yet other game ports need to be opened.

But i wont ask why :rotfl:

Ditto - have'nt adjusted anything, have'nt opened any ports and yet my router and hardware firewall, plus
software firewall allows joining but not hosting. Not complaining just mystified. :hmm: :o :huh: :stare:

Opening ports is necessary only when you host not when you join a multiplayer match.
