did anyone see this tactic in 44-45

did anyone see a destroyer use those bombs thatthey fire like 20 in the air and it lands in a circle like in the sh3 trailers i saw one being used against me in a multiplayer game

Its called a Hedgehog, nasty lil bit of work :)

They had a couple of advantages over depth charges. They fired forward, so the ASDIC/SONAR could still hear. They didn't go off unless they hit something, so the ASDIC could still hear.

They were, indeed, a "nasty lil bit of work".

And they were very real.

Y or K guns?

Cdre Gibs 02-15-06 08:07 PM

Forward firing - Hedgehog (multiple shoots from 1 unit - reloadable)
Side firing - KGun (need more than 1 unit for multiple shots - reloadable)
Aft firing - Rail's (just drops off the overhanging stern rail, multiple drops can be done - reloadable)

On 3 occasions since December 1943, I have been Hedgehogged,
and all the times by a River Destroyer Escort (correct name?).
I died on its first attempt all 3 times!

Now, do other types of destroyers have the Hedgehog, as well?
And if so, how do you know they've got it?

Einzelganger 02-16-06 05:12 PM

I have seen them on other destroyers in my campaigns ( External views can be a horrible thing :o )

Unless you want to check out each of your opponents with the external cam you won't know if they will have it.

I've lost 2 crews to those hedgehogs and came away once with heavy damage... other times i was deep enough to probably only just clear the buggers.

But i find the main weapons of choice for those DDs are still depthcharges.
