11th Flotilla question
 

I transfered to the 11th Flotilla in Brest in mid 1942 so Id be able to aquire the IX, now its mid 1943 and its still not available. Since I only have 20k renown should I just save it for the XXI? Is there something I have to do to get more subs available? I need to carry more Eels damn it!

You'll be waiting a mightly long time to get the IX in the 11th! It doesn't get the type. And what are you doing in Brest? The 11th is in Bergen.

The XXI won't be available until at least April '44...even longer if you're using RUb. So you've got plenty of time to save up for it whilst you tut around in your VIIC.

Well, you're mid-42 and the XXI isn't around until mid-44. That's two years.

I assume you have a VIIC now? To upgrade your VIIC to the max, which is all you can do in the 11th until the XXI becomes available, will cost you:

Conning tower upgrades...
VIIC/2 500
VIIC/3 1000
VIIC/4 1500

Sub upgrades...
VIIC/41 3000
VIIC/42 3000

If you don't care about Flak guns, then the conning tower upgrades are not necessary. In fact, for reality, I'd even remove the deckgun as you're never gonna use it anyway.

What *I* would do depends on what mods I have installed:
-If I'm using stock SH3, then I'd grab the VIIC/41 in October '43 and the XXI in April '44.
-If I'm using RUb, I would keep the VIIC with VIIC/1 conning tower until the XXI is available, as RUb "corrects" the date that the VIIC/41 becomes available to March '44. Too close to the XXI to make it worthwhile. But note that with RUb you'll only get the XXI for one patrol (as training takes up 259 days).

Of course, if you really want your IX, you can transfer to another Flotilla for a year or so, but I think you'll end up struggling to get the required XXI renown (unless you cheat of course and manually change the renown figure required for the XXI).

But having said this, I am in the 7th in June '42 and still enjoy my "unoptioned" VIIB.
