Time compression survey for Aircraft issues - Why & Solu

Guys and girls.

I am after your invaluable input. I need to know what time compression level that you play at.
128x
256x
512x
1024x
Higher

I would also ask how often do encounter aircraft,
rarely - every few weeks
sometimes - every week
often - every couple of days
daily
many times a day

---EDIT---
Can you please list your mods in the install order

I am after this information so that I may trouble shoot the inconsistent issue of some people getting hammered with aircraft and other being almost blissfully unaware that SHIII has them.

==================== EDIT ======================
After looking into the LND files I have found that as of the 01/05/43 Black May LOTS of Large Airbases become active.

These airbases at times take over from a normal airbase or are new and have become active for the first time. The larger the base the more aircraft it can send.

Enough of why, onto the solution, open the AirStrike.cfg in this folder C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Cfg, change the last line Logic Steps Between Air Sessions= to 25

What this line does is to tell the program how many Logic Interval's to wait between sending out aircraft. By increasing this number the time between aircraft being sent is increased and thus the aircraft numbers are then reduced.

Also, Jason11's Airpower Mod also has multiple large aircraft happening which makes for a greater amount of aircraft. RUB has far less multiple large aircraft. See my posts in the Mod forum.

1024 , I have played since Sh3 arrived in the shops and i would be lucky to get 1 aircraft per patrol . I never send a radio report and that is why i never have problems with planes . As an example surfaced all the way to BE grids from wilhelmshaven and back = no planes . I play mostly from the beginning of the war to the beginning of 1941 . Mods installed are RUB1.45 and recently plus NYGM mods . I always time compress while getting to my destination at 1024 . If i send a radio report i will see planes guaranteed . I hope this helps .

Aircraft? SH3 has aircraft?

I play between x2048 and x4096 (always max TC to and from the patrol grid).

I've completed 26 patrols across two careers, it's now Apr '42 and I've prolly seen two aircraft in total. One of the buggers hit me too. :(

Unfortunately, I can't remember the TC I was at when I saw them.

I play between 256 and 512 and since mid 43 I have been constantly hammered by Sunderlands and B-24s as soon as I leave St-Nazarie

256 tops surfaced, in mid 41 now, rarely seen a plane, only HT installed.

Teddy
mid 42 right now
2048x & 4096x to cover the longer distances to S Atlantic or US East Coast
normally tho:
1024x at night
128x or 256x dawn to dusk(Aircraft attack probability greatly reduced at anything over 256x)
air attack once every couple days but with 16km mod no problems
Once I hit early 1943 most likely will reduce TC at night also-leigh lights/increased patrol area, etc, etc.

This probably should have it own topic.....

As I see it from this excercise, anything over 128x and things start to be missed. I have concluded from Observers feedback to me and then my experience in the same area, that even at 256x the occurance of aircraft is reduced.

JScones 02-11-06 10:00 AM

Hehe. Just doubled the number of aircraft I've seen. There I was closely shadowing a large convoy SW of Ireland (@ <32x TC) when I heard the buzz of planes overhead...two Avengers...hmmm, I wonder where they're coming from? A closer look towards the centre of the convoy...and four torpedoes later (one was a dud), down goes my first Bogue Escort Carrier.

So I can now say I've seen four planes in 27 patrols.

Higher the TC less aircrafts. What I've seen if you go TC higher than 512 you can go through BoB (after May '43) without seeing a single aircraft. If lower you can see lots of them. AirStrike.cfg from RUb 1.45.

Sailor Steve 02-11-06 12:57 PM

My max is set for 4096, but I usually cruise at 2048 due to graphics performance issues. I have to admit I've only been attacked by aircraft twice. In both cases I saw them far too late to take any action, but both times I was lucky: it was 1939 and they missed by a wide margin.

Maybe the time compression made them react too late as well.

Tonnage_Ace 02-11-06 01:17 PM

How'd you increase TC to 4096 over 1024?

Search The Community Manual for "time compression".

Sailor Steve 02-11-06 01:33 PM

Basic.cfg in the CFG files in the Data folder.

Or use SHIII Commander.

JScones 02-11-06 10:58 PM

Doesn't raising the 3DRender TC value overcome the lack of planes at higher TC?
