Port Question

I am pulling into my port for the 1st time, and the ship won't seem to stop. Hanging around 1-2kts and no matter what I do, it wont go to 0. Do I need to come to a complete stop? How do I end my mission?

Good game on you going for the full pull in and moor up. Best bet though is to get within the harbor and press (ESCAPE) after that hit (DOCK AT ... Whatever base you are at) I've tied up manually a couple of times, but found that it takes too much work to get the end result.

I'm in the port and don't see that option when I hit ESC.

As posted above, you don't have to physically dock back in port - you can hit the escape key anywhere within about 20-30 km or so of your port and then select the "dock at" choice it gives you at bottom right of your screen - if you don't get that choice you're still a little too far away - just continue back into the game and sail a little closer and then try the esc key again.

If you want to dock (I still do it occasionally myself), just practice throwing it into reverse for a brief while at the last minute to kill off your last knot or two of forward speed - don't leave it too long in reverse though or you'll just start going backward and have to keep rocking back and forth till you finally get it right - once you get the hang of it though it's not that hard to do.

Good luck and good hunting!

Only option was EXIT PATROL, then I saw the DOCK AT option. But I didnt get any renown.

trenken 02-10-06 10:10 PM

I was actually in the port and I didnt get that option.

I usually hit all stop about 1km so when the sub enters the dock it doing about 1knt order back slow and as the boat is about to go backwards hit all stop that usually works for me. then hit escape, exit patrol, dock at xxxxx done,

You say when you docked you did not get any renown did you sink any ships ?

trenken 02-11-06 10:01 AM

I didn't sink any ships but I read on here that you get renown from returning to port rather than exiting right after you finish your 24 hour patrols. So that's not true?

Sailor Steve 02-11-06 01:01 PM

Yes, you do get renown for returning to your home base. You can actually exit the game a ways away (I think it's 30 km). I always dock. My method is to slow to 5 knots once I'm in the inner harbor (traffic rules and all that). Once I get close to the dock or sub pen I slow to 2 knots. I kill the engines as my bow comes even with the dock, which usually coasts to a stop right where I want it.

Well i'm very confused now. I pull into dock. I hit ESC. There is no option to DOCK AT... until I go to Exit Patrol. I did that, no renown.

Sailor Steve 02-11-06 01:35 PM

I don't know what's wrong. I get renown for doing just that.

trenken 02-11-06 04:48 PM

OK so when you go out on a patrol, there is 2 missions. 1 to reach the patrol area, and the other to make your rounds for 24 hours. So do you get renown for accomplishing each of these missions?

Because I left port on my 1st patrol with 1500 renown. When I got back to port and exited, it said I had 1650. So did that come from accomplishing the 2 missions, or just making back to port?

Anyone know the answer to my above question?

The Silent Hunter III Community Manual is your friend. Read the "Renown" page.
