The worlds biggest cruise ship is to be build in Finland.

At the time the project is called genesis. The ship will overthrow Queen Mary 2 as the biggest and most beautiful. While QM2 is 150,000 GRT, the "Genesis" will be a 220,000 GRT ship. More details... http://www.akerfinnyards.com/press.cfm?ID=260

I do have to say the food kicks butt and the food alone is worth the cruise, but do we really need another 'bigger' ship? Does anyone know the waste that these big boats create?

220,000 GRT?? With almost 5500 people on board, why bother? What will you be getting away from? The hustle and bustle of work? Doubtful. That, to me, is too big, and I liked my trip on the Carnival Victory at 100,000GRT. That was beginning to get too big. Now we're way past that.

With crew, there are 10.000 people on board. :D

Before 'Genesis' (220,000 GRT) will be 'Freedom of the Seas' (160,000 GRT), carrying 3,600 passengers :o . I'll be on her for a week's voyage in the Caribbean this fall. :D

If I had enough money, I would construct a huge gummy bear and then mold it to look just like that ship, except 2 feet longer and 2 pounds heavier.

Cruise ships are getting as big as supertankers now sheesh, QM2 can bearly dock in new york and i doubt this new one ever could,
but there will be bigger ones to come.

Theres already one of 3 million tonnes on the drawing board but she wont be a cruise ship she will be like a cruise home basicaly like the "world" cruise home buy a cabin and sail with the ship where ever.

She's been on the drawing board for ten years. I don't think it'll ever be built...

Kapitan 02-09-06 12:43 PM

more to the point where would they build it ?

Etienne 02-09-06 10:10 PM

Launched module, afloat assembly? I don't even know if that has been done before.

The whole "Liberty" (One of the name that was proposed for the live-aboard ship) project smells like an investment scam to me... And it's not that plausible. I mean, think of the stresses...

Plus, landing a 747 ON TOP of the ship would mean a huge reduction of the GM, which, on that kind of ship, is already not all that big... (Stiff ships have dirty floors)
