Fate Arab states when West turns alternative i.t.o energy?

Your predictions iyp.

I think the cultural gap will obviously further widen and most of the remaining common moderate islamic people over there will feelcornered for perceived or factual lack of economic alternatives and Western domination, and fall easy prey to radical imams.

The UN'd better prepare for this sure future instead of let the global market handle this, OR..............?

But what can be done ?

The Economy, Standard of life, freedom and security of the arab nations could be improved.

Those who are poor and oppressed will allways fight.
They will fight for what ever hope they are given to belive in.

Look at the rize of Natzism or the fall of the Russian Czar or the American Civil war

Turkey is a Muslim state, right? :shifty: So I guess it's just possible that there could be conditions to achieve the stability necessary for them to build their nations and create economic prosperity. But it won't happen until you find a way to eliminate the toxic radical elements in their society.

Nah, you have to improve the conditions first as the only way to eliminate radical elements is to pacify them. Anyother way just creates more radical elements.

Thanks guys for getting straight to the core of the matter in a mere couple of posts. There's still hope for the GT forum ;)

Mark my words, it'll be on the UN agenda as top priority in a mere 2 years from now. The next US president will be elected for his vision and plan on this issue !

PS Sixpack has always been 2 years ahead of developments. No problem, I am used to it :know:

Top 3 U.S. importers of crude oil are Canada 1,776 barrels a day, Mexico at 1,658 barrels, Saudi Arabia 1,267 and coming in at 7th is Iraq 572 barrels.

I suppose if the U.S. found an alternative energy source the up and coming China would be happy to keep the shieks in business.

But what about those 'toxic radical elements in their society' who live in the UK? They have the benefit of improved social and economic conditions, yet they are still burning flags and calling for murder to be commited in the name of islam, over some daft cartoons.
How exactly is giving an extreemist a disposable income and a bill of rights going to change his desire to cut off the heads of the infidel defillers?

I can see where you're going with the whole 'educate the ignorant' thing; indeed I'm a proponent of such and ideal myself, however, it will only change those who want to change. I think it's a bit naive to think that better living conditions and economic security will do much to change the true beleiver and his intent to do you and me harm.

Egyptian professor gives an example of what a rising urban middle class can do to Islam, these non-traditional Muslims chose to drop behind the political Islam (sharia, theocratic state, etc.), but even though they have been growing they are still too few and it may be a matter of time before the Muslim Brotherhood feels threatened and puts an end to this 21st century adventure.

By the time it happens, the political and sociologial situation will have changed too much for any prediction to be accurate.

We're still decades away from the day this will happen.
