Oldies rule!
Sometime this winter - I finally managed to get Speedball 2 working on my XP-rig. Got myself an 80s-style arcade joystick (digital  ), a Competition Pro, and was fine beating up those little fellas while getting as much points for that like for scoring a "goal"...
Next, I got dungeon Master Java installed, and became almost sentimental listening to the very same oh so well-known sounds... tap-tap... rumble-rumble.... huich!... crank-crank  And yesterday I found Empire DeLuxe, which I only knew from Amiga days as the original Empire. Spend half the night and all day with it... What oldie is next, Pacman...? Carrier command...!? Anyone knows if it could be picked up somehwere? I also tried Faery Tale Adventure, but the PC version looked and sounded so ugly that I gave up immediately... |
Anybody else remember Leisure Suit Larry? Or the Lemmings?

Digger.

Got an arcade pack a few years ago. Asteriods, Missle Command, Battlezone, Centipede, and Tempest.
Missle Command was my old fave. However, there is not as much on the line since you don't have to feed the computer a quarter everytime you play. |
Good old times... <sigh> :) Racing Destruction Kit, M.U.L.E., Impossible Mission, Space Taxi, Seven Cities of Gold, Bruce Lee, Pitfall, Choplifter, Castle Wolfenstein, Archon, Paradroid (), Lode Runner, Spy vs. Spy.

COMMANDER KEEN!!!
Or Wings of Fury on my Dads old computer, trying to figure out how to land on that carrier and usually ploughing at full speed into the deck. Good days. |
Eevery couple of years I watch my old VHS copy of "Wargames" - just to listen to the background sounds from that arcade hall... thazt sound brings back memoeires (although as a boy I was too shy and also had no money to go there and waste some coins... Pool and Taifun came later).
Plenty of that arcade stuff can be found legally here: <Edit: See my comments below JCC> and old PC and Amiga games: <Edit> |
I still got a Sega Meger Drive and still works ok
|
the 8-Bit Nintendo!
|
<Edit: See below>
Excellent source for legal abandonware. Wings of Fury was a favorite of mine. Also, Knights Of The Sky. Used to always help the lads on the ground by bombing a few trench positions. Could never find the Red Baron though  |

Quite a few of the emulators have come a long ways, not to mention processing power. The C64 and Amiga, Atari 800, SNES, NES, Atari 2600/5200/7200, Mame. Just about anything you remember can be found, if not the exact version you played, another console's version of it. And a lot of them have not lost their appeal. Destroyer is still neat. Rescue Raiders, Airheart, Captain Goodnight, Conan, Bruce Lee, Defender of the Crown, Arctic Fox, Elite, Skyfox, Infiltrator, Beach-Head. There's also SCUMM for all of the Lucasarts games. You can play Sam 'n Max will all the sound effects, Fate of Atlantis, Day of the Tentacle. Tooooooooooooooo many games that need re-playin'. Not enough hours in the day. :ping: |
Tycho,
Where have you seen Arctic Fox? Would make a nice "first tank sim ever" in the tanksim-forum. There was also a scrolling action tank shooter in satellite view, name was Firepower. I bought it back then cause I thought it were the conversion of the hex-cosim of the same name, late 80s. |
