Fuel Problems

Hi I just patroled over to the americas in a type IXC and ran out of fuel on the ruturn journey, the thing is the patrol only lasted 52 days and I only went slow ahead which was about 8 knots to get to teh Hatteras area and then the same to patrol back I find it strange to have used all that fuel as i am pretty sure IXC's had enough fuel for quiet a stay over in the americas, the only time I ran up full speed was to overhaul merchants. Anyway I ran out of fuel mid atlantic so I had to exit the patrol and dock by using that method I would of much prefered going all the way back.
I am using the latest RUB and SH Commander. I saw in some posts
last week some guys were patroling for like 125 odd days as I use realistic fuel in the options menu I take it that they are not ?

Any sugestions ?

Cheers
Easty

Fuel Problems

Hi

Its strange because when I slow down to say four knots and get the navigator to give me an estimated range at the current speed it seems to be a lot shorter distance than when I am at slow ahead which is the slowest setting on the dial and I tried going at 4 knots but seemed to be using up more fuel than when I was going 8 knots.

One other thing I stopped and met a Utanker to refuel and pressed escape and then retuned back to the patrol but the time differance was huge like 30+ days or so shouldn't it be like 1 day maximum if we are refueling ?

Cheers

The U-tanker is a BASE, just like Brest or Kiel. When you dock with the U-tanker, the game thinks that you have arrived to a port. So, the game randomizes, how many days you spent docked. You can change the "Days spent in base" with the SH3 Commander.

no, no, no!

most U-boots reach the best economy at around 7knts

Going slower than that means your fuel wont get you as many miles!

Also staying submerged decreases your fuel economy as more speed is taken out of the ship when chargeing the batterys than you gain in speed when useing the batterys.

Also remember that some types of IX have bigger fuel tanks than others!

Were your fuel tanks damaged at any times?

(If SHIII models that, I don't quite remember)

fuel tanks

The heck it doesn't.

One Autum afternoon, U-2, the dimunative dugout canoe, makes its way into home base. The crew tired but jubilant from a very successful patrol, and also looking forward to transfer to the newly commisioned U-137 (a bran spanking new IID). Too many severly shortened missions due to low bunkerage of U-2.

While getting ready for the brass bands and rose flinging nurses, the bridge see the buildings of Kiel harbor.

Then a blast is heard, and the boat shudders. The crew scream, and the boat starts making water in all compartments. All stop is ordered, and reports start coming in. Amongst these, the fuel tank is ruptured. Within seconds the fuel level is seen to drop.

An ill placed mine at the mouth of the harbor made U-2's final voyage under this crew, possibly her last voyage ever.

Had to request a tow. (exit via the esc menu) Which was quite embarrising.

Oh, and when you run out of fuel, you can't run on the surface with electrics. Have to be under water.

I've heard others say the fuel tanks are able to be damaged resulting in fuel loss also. Never happened to me personally but I guess it could be true. I know I've been DC'd and the underwater view showed leaking fuel but I've never noticed a loss. This game may still have a few surprises for us.

I struck a mine between Dover & Calais. Boat sunk but rested on the botom were my crew repaired and stopped the leaks. Watching from outside you could see the diesel sipping out from the damaged hull. When reached surface all fuel was gone. Went to PD and creeped slow against calais wich became the end of that patrol. :-?

I too have lost fuel after attack, a sunderland hit me in the bay of biscay and my fuel went from 95% to 65%. I didn't notice any leaking fuel in the water but I lost some for sure.

Very sorry, I have been proved wrong, I humbly appologise

Kalach 02-03-06 09:49 PM

I was hit by a bomb NW of England and after running submerged for a half hour doing repair work I surfaced to find my fuel had gone from 75% to 0% :o .
So I sent a call for help (patrol report ;) ) and waited 24hrs then teleported home :)

I have given up on the type IXs, they just don't give you enough fuel to get there and back  (sure, the IXD2s might but all of them should).

Seeing there is a loss of fuel from damage, can the fuel loss be shown, leaving the sub causing an oil slick on the surface, with a mod?
