Saving bug? (RESOLVED)
Getting fed up with the saving in campaign mode. :damn: Have ventilated this in the general forum before, Thanks Avon & everyone else involved. I now read in the "community manual" that there is a glitch in patch 1.4b resulting in corrupt saves.
Now Yeaterday I cleaned out all SHIII files from the computer including "My documents/SHIII/*....." :hulk: I Reinstalled a clean SHIII basic version and ran a test campaign. Saving "at sea" calling it 00=> worked!!! Doing a "save & exit" called "Del" also went well. The 00-save was visible in the window before I left. I then exited SHIII the normal way. (there were now files in the "My documents/SHIII" folders) After starting SHIII again I also loaded the "00" in-mission file successfully. :smug: Next step was now reinstalling the whole thing (complete SHIII) again + adding Patch 1.4b to it. Also this time I deleted the SHIII folder under "My documents". Started the sim and began a fresh career for a second time. Saved "in mission" as 00 but this time "00" was displayed as "2yu*LIiYDt"!!??? :hmm: I continued further on the patrol & went to "Save&Exit" naming the file "Del". The only result was SHIII crashing  . After restart I went to "saved career" were my 00-save now was called "In Mission (5.1ÛI5U+jîmcAÛêlk1U5enéC6cQûQ". Loaded the thing resulting in "Error while loading save". Loading the "In port before mission" works though. The only thing that really works is saving in port (homeport or milchkuh). Frankly I am getting a bit tired on SHIII especially since campaigns are for me the really fun bit of the sim. What have I missed??????. :hmm: P4 1.4 mhz, Radeon9600, 512M Ram, winME Regards /Per :ping: |

Also, do you have the same problem if the save names you gove begin with a letter instead of a number? |

I have just done an install on my old trusty laptop (PIII etc) wich is not a gaming computer for sure but has win XP. Now SHIII + p1.4b RUNS on this old bucket of a computer  Even better: the saving problem is gone!!!   It was Win ME who was the culprit all the time  . Going past the computer sales guy on my way back home from work to get XP. New careers on the way :rotfl:  :arrgh!: |

I have now found out that it was Win ME that caused the biggest problem. What about adding this to the community manual "WinME beware"...? During this little test I did at lunch I didnt see if the save "Del" worked since I only loaded the "00"-save. Will check that too. Happy hunting /Per |

This problem has been explained perfectly in "Win98" topic (just a few forum pages back)
Win98 ver 4.10.2222A causes this saving problem with patch 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4b. Until this day, there isn't any patch, mod or whatever to fix this problem. Ver 1998 of Win98 doesn't causes this bug |
I have had the same problems with Windows XP.
Rules for Saving. 1. Do not save when Submerged. 2. Do not save when in Contact with enemy. 3. Erase the "Player" Career form the Careers Folder, 4. Never start a patrol unless all other career patrols are "in port." 5. Do no use Alt-Tab. 6. Do no make enteries on a Forum while playing SH3. |

Hmmm. I've not had the 'submerged' problem - yet... I just yesterday saved "while in contact with the enemy", cuz I just didn't have a choice. Had to leave the house. Luckily, it seemed to be OK when I went back to the 'battle' this morning. Maybe I should be 'knocking on wood as I write this. I've always had a bogus career going as a test bed while out on patrol with my real hero. And that last one - I've never had any luck going to desktop while actually in-game. The old [Windows FLAG - M] keystroke combo works, but it seems to make the whole game transition unstable and scares me. I sure don't want to lose my "hero" to some Windows instability thing. GASP!!! But, I'm going to take all this to heart and try not to screw up my hero's campaign by viloating these rules. Thanks for the tips. |

I'm gonna sue UBI :arrgh!: |
It´s a bit contradicting since on the box it very clearly say "Only win2000/XP supported".
I bought myself an XP-home edition last friday and installed/tested it over the weekend. I also cleaned out ALL SHIII related files and started to reinstall the whole thing. It is a whole new computer  . The graphics works MUCH faster especially when using the 3d camera & moving around inside the sub. It seems like XP handles the graphics files much more efficient?! (Dunno really how it works, I by and run software. I don´t write it). Seems more stable as well. Need all this to work since I have enlisted for WaW (and is hopefully accepted for training by BdU later on) :arrgh!: My c is getting old but will have to go on for a while (P4 1,7 GHz, 512M internal + ATI 9600 graphics card) Will do more "saving experiments during the week" :|\ /P |
