someone broke my uboat

Okay, I'm on my second patrol out of Wilhelmshaven with a Type VIIB. The first patrol was just in the middle of the north sea, and I didn't notice anything wrong. My second patrol was to AM11, finally a good chance to try out this thing.

I noticed that whenever changing from batteries to deisel engines, at first the boat was going slow for my speed settings, i.e. 7 knots instead of 10 at ahead 1/3, 10 knots instead of 13 at Standard. I looked with the free camera, only to find that my starboard propeller was not working. Only after a couple of game hours at the same speed would the propeller kick in. I haven't been damaged at all, and the engine room is fully staffed. The dials for engine RPM in the command room say that both engines are working properly (are these just for decoration, or are they supposed to be accurate?).

Anyway, I just wanted to know if anyone else ran into this, if I did something wrong and didn't notice or whatever. I've never experienced this before, so I really have no idea what the problem might be.

Nothing's wrong. It is just your batteries recharging. The power from one engine gets diverted from propulsion to recharge the batteries. After they are charged normal propulsion resumes. The next time you dive, the sequence begins anew.

Any chance you are recharging batteries?

Caught me off guard first time I noticed it but that sounds like the issue...

Of course, if you're in a hurry (and your batteries aren't all that low) you can shut down the recharge and run full bore with both engines.

:know: He is right; been a couple times chasing 9 knot wounded cargo ships -

:hulk: hate it when I miss the 90 degree shot and they run off....

Bet the new Kaleun is running without checking, done it myself.

Just click on that icon/portrait (bottom far left... then the screw symbol; one is highlighted) and see if you are in recharge mode or not, bet is its in recharge once you click it off you are/have both screws turning.

Helm engineer will always go to recharge first - affects your maximum distance too - you will see your Navigator report change once you get out of recharge.

My advice is unless desperate to kill a target get those batteries up first DD have a nasty way of showing up at the wrong time ;)

g/l and feel free to post more Qs

BdU is counting on you....

You can also look at the gauges in "die Zentrale"; Starboard engine always at max rev“s ( two identical small gauges above and between the depthcontrol guys) the and a red light over the starboard telegraph when batteries are charged. Both lights green indicates both diesels running propellers.
