Landing the p-3 orion

Anyone know how to set a mission where you can take off and land the p-3 orion? I tried and I keep crashing. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

The mission needs to be set up with an airport, which you right click on, and select 'Land On', or land manually. Also ensure the gear is down before you land.

Also I dont think you can start a mission landed at an airport. you must start in flight.

Yep, no way to start a playable P-3 on the ground. And for creating your own mission to practice landings ... make sure the place where you put the airport if flat and unobstructed ... even a small rise might be fatal if to close to the runway.

Check my P3 manual for details on landing/starting of the P3.

No, thats no correct OneShot.
When I was practicing multistation on the p-3 with Fandango we created mssions with the (playable) p-3 landed.

Fandango 01-12-06 04:25 AM

That's correct...you can take off from an airport...a bit tricky to make though...that was a long time ago when me and goldorak used to train multi-station on the P-3...

I don't have that mission anymore. Goldorak, do you still have it?...if you've not reinstalled the game and deleted your mission folder, it should still be on your computer. When I'm home, I'll try to recreate it (...that was a long time ago...) but basically, you position the plane the lowest possible on the runway at zero speed (checking its position in the 3d window). I don't remember if you had to assign the plane to the airport somehow...and anyway, once on the game, you had to put down the gear yourself...

@ Fandango : yes I think its still in the Scenario Folder.

Fandango 01-12-06 05:05 AM

Cool!

Then send it to Oneshot...and to me, too, please...I just can't remember how I did that. The only thing I remember is that I had to put the gear down once in the game... :)

Needless to say that I get all credits for that... :sunny:

:o
Impressive, you think this could be applied to a Helo landed on a frigate?

I don't see why it couldn't be possibile.

OneShot 01-12-06 10:07 AM

In that case you used a workaround, tho I didnt know that would even work. Then only thing getting close to it has been the P3 mission in the RSR campaign where the P3 starts close above the runway already flying (as if just rotated). Thanks for the info.

However my point is still valid ... without using your workaround (ie by game design) its actually not possible to have a playable P3 starting from the runway at mission start.

If you could successfully recreate all the steps to build such a mission (part) including the steps the player has to take to not crash his plane at mission start, I would be very grateful if you could post them over at the CADC (with a scenario if possible attached).

I don't know how to recreate all the steps, but I still have the file.
I'm trying to send it to you via icq but it seems you don't answer to my request.

Please send a copy to me, too! In my P-3 mission for the Red Storm Rising campaign, I wanted the Orion to start on the runway but couldn't figure out how to do it. :hmm:

OneShot 01-12-06 10:23 AM

Just added you to my Trillian ... once I see you online, the transfer should work.

goldorak 01-12-06 10:24 AM

Ok, but how do I send the attached file through subsim's email system.
I don't seem to find the option :hmm:
