Your patrol range preferance?
 
What type of Patrol do you prefer?
Do you miss the nightlife in france, or do you love those beard growing 75+ day, epic voyages to destinations unknown :88)

Other factors needed improvment on.....I want to be forced back to base because of lack of food, damage to sub other than combat, extreme low moral......


I voted for whenever I run out of fuel (and/or Torps).

because the poll would never get a straight answer...

Although "short" or "long" are subjective terms at best, you would probably agree that "medium" is more subjective. Hence, different people would get different ideas. And then everyone would select medium...

The real purpose of this poll is to help me decide if i should release a bunch of minor changes packaged as a mod for people who like longrange patrols.

One of the things im experimenting with is patrol based fatigue, or "fatigue as food" if you will. So say after 45 days a green crew is pretty hungry, were as a more experienced crew wont be as "fatiuged" as fast, maybe after 75+ days..... the idea being the more experienced crewman would be going, "uboat special coctail... want some?!" But this is some very prelimenary testing. Right now im fiddling with values, but using RUB's model as a baseline and working from there.

yes is would, because what defines short and long
it should have said
short= <x KM
medium= between X and XX KM
long= XX or more KM

as a casual player of SH3, I don't even know the certain ranges of my missions.

From Kiel to the British channel? That's short I guess.
From Kiel to the center of the Atlantic ocean? That's medium I guess.
From Kiel to the US east coast? That's long I guess.


But those are all assumptions. And I have no idea about the real distances involved. Realism to a point.

Personnaly i define :

REALLY short = med

Short = Any patrol that lasts about 30 days in the north atlantic.

Long = takes me 20 days (game time) just to get to the US east coast. While there, ill lay submerged and only surface to recharge batteries or to chase a sound contact in order to conserve fuel to extend my stay as long as possible. Then its 20 days back to lorient.

On the average most of my long range patrols go for 60 to 75-80 days in an IXC. Arguably longer if i were in an IXD2.

Don't care. I go where I'm sent, do my best to do my duty (sink ships, come back alive), and return home when I have to.

I agree about food being a problem; that would be nice.

Thats currently my pet project. Trying to find an flat (read non fluxuation steady decline) rate of fatigue at 1024 compression.

I usually turn fatigue off cause i hate to micromanage, but the other day, the food idea hit me, and i remembered RUB's fatigue model. Just make all compartments drain fatigue the same, and find the happy number where a green crew gets "hungry" (out of /or low on food) at say 45 days at sea or whatever number suits you. Obviously a more seasoned crew has greater intestional fortitude to chug down a "uboat special" of rotton milk and mouldy oranges.

not only bad morale because of eating bad food is a great idea, how about maybe some of the crew get sick. could really make a difference when a dd is after you

Anything goes. Around Ireland/UK, US East Coast, Caribbean or Africa, dont' really care about the length of a patrol. Besides, it's nice to explore new areas anyway, figuring out the shipping lanes etc.

from brest to Skapa Flow or island and back is okay.

but i follow orders if they send me to the carribean or south africa tho.

dont like that...
