How to remove Swatiska from IuB ?

Hi There !

I had installed IuB and some other mods but I want to remove the swatiska from German boats.

Can someone tell me how I can do this and revert to SH3 vanilla setting for this ? :)

Thanks a lot.

Marhkimov 12-20-05 03:42 AM

hmm... I wonder if there is such a mod... :hmm:

MirabelleBenou 12-20-05 03:49 AM

Well, I don't think so but maybe I could do this modification by myself.

The only things is that I do not know what to change and how to change it :)

Sure that the modders of theses swatiska's mods know and could answer :)

Here's the thing... Most everyone makes mods with swasticas, so there is no "one" swastica modder. Just about all of us use it.

If by getting rid of swasticas, you mean on the flags and on the deck of the Bismarck, then I can do it easily. I can swap the swasticas for iron crusader crosses if you want.

Or I can blank out the entire swastica. Your choice.

I'll do it for you... Just give me a few specifics. Exactly which swasticas would you like removed?

Marhkimov 12-20-05 04:05 AM

But unless you live in Germany or Japan, why would you want to remove the crosses?

It's just a videogame...

Camaero 12-20-05 04:55 AM

I hope you don't try to act like it never happened.... It is just history dude! Don't be afraid!

(I respect anyones choice not to use it though of course... I just don't personally understand why.)

As long as you don't look too closely, I think you will mainly just need to modify the flags. Otherwise there are a few more such as the Bismarck etc...

MirabelleBenou 12-20-05 04:58 AM

Well, yes I know.

I do not want to launch a debate on this but this is related to my familly history.

I live in France and my Grand-Father was forced to join the werhmacht and the brother of my Grand-Mother died on the russian front near Stalingrad.

In my familly, the swatiskas mean something and, even if i know that it's a game, I do not want members of my familly to remind some weird things when I'm playing SH3. These enrollments were only a little part of what happened to my familly during the war.

And more personnaly, I think that I do not need this point of realism in my home :)

Anyway, thanks a lot for your help.

That's exactly what I mean and the iron crusader crosses will be good :)

Thanks !

Don't worry about explaining yourself. I was just curious...

If someone hasn't made new flags for you by the time I wake up, I promise I'll make some custom flags for ya.

MirabelleBenou 12-20-05 05:30 AM

Thanks again :)

If you get my Bismarck from Denmark Strait battle skin, it won't have any swastikas on it. ;) They are covered by gray color, as in real life.

It's so retarded how everything gets blamed on a piece of cloth! The nazi flag didn't kill people! People with guns and bombs killed people! The war has been over for over a half a century when will people ever except that? It's important to not forget about our past and grow from it. This game that we play here puts us in the shoes of a GERMAN U-boat Captain during WWII that is sent out on mission to sink and KILL ships and PEOPLE (granted that people are not modelled on the ships that you sink, but in your imagination they are there). Ships don't drive themselves ya know! But let us forget all that and blame our sinister acts on the nazi flag so that we may enjoy the game and pretend that we are not a Nazi German U-boat Captain, but instead the protector of Germany and the Allies started the war and the Americans had the gas chambers and were the ones killing off the Jews and that we as a peaceful and fun loving nation of Germany are the Jew protectors.

Of course you will have to edit the game to remove all occupied German bases from France and other various countries and only sail from German ports the entire game and never use the RUb mod. Of course you will have to exchange the nazi flag with the American one or one of the actual allied flags so that- that symbol of evil is on the ships that you sink and so that you may feel good about playing this game...

OR

You could just simply NOT play the game and pretend to ignore fact and history and get on with your gay ol day. Cause honestly I don't see a connection between the flag and the ruthless acts that the people who flew it committed. Europe needs to get the F over it already! Last year I visited Paris, France, and inside the Napolean Museum I noticed that there WERE Nazi flags on display in there.

It's not like you're hanging it up from your front door when you play this game. It a SIMULATION that allows you to play on the other side for once and to see and use (simulated) the technology that Germany used during the war. When you play COD 1 or 2 do you never play as the Germans or pick up their weapons to use in the SIMULATED battle? I doubt it!

Anyways, go on and ignore FACT, HISTORY, and what you will. The rest of us enjoy playing and learning about our history. Grow the F up and realize that this is NOT a Disney F---ing world!

This post is not directed at you, MirabelleBenou, but just my feelings in general. I don't disagree with you that it was an awful period of time and that Nazi German was about as evil a nation as there ever was, but I can't stand folks who want to Mickey Mouse something that shouldn't be.

drEaPer 12-20-05 11:07 AM

Couldnt agree more. Just wanna add: There is no "black & white" in any war. Especially in WW2 every participating nation did evil, even the US by refusing to let the jews migrate and sending ships full of jewish refugees back to germany. There is never a "good" side in war. Its all about "necessary cruelty". Whether justified or not lies in the hand of politicians, not soldiers. They usually just do their job and believe in what the politicans say, which can turn out very dangerous, as seen in WW2 with the nazi propaganda and lies preparing the men's minds for battle. And it can happen again, anywhere.... where the truth is being opressed and faulty believes are divulging. Though wars are fight by men, they are started by political leaders.

I think he's said enough on the matter already. There was a rather heated debate on the matter some time back, so if it's interesting, I suggest visiting that one. the guy just asked how to remove the swastikas, not necessary to justify it. He just as well might have asked how to put numbers on the bows of destroyers.

Yea, guys, this is a modding forum, not the politics forum. You go to General Topics for that.

Modding is always a matter of choice. And I think we know what the choice is here.

It should be a matter of altering textures - which, in itself, is not a terribly complicated mod.

It might also be worth to ask someone who has the EMEA version of the game if they can send you some of their data files that have swastikas removed from them (flags etc.)
