Win 2003 Pirates

Has anybody got Pirates to run on Win 2003. When I run pirates I get a black screen and a unable to initialize directx error. Im pretty sure it is due to a lack of driver support. Is there any way around this?
Im pretty sure I will have to wait untill I get WINXP but I thought I would ask just in case there is a soloution.
