Question about the IUB1.02 radio-messages

In IUB1.02, you get lots of radio-messages, which according to the readme are expanded and historically correct.

During the first few days of Patrol1-Sept1939, I got messages like not to engage Britisch warships (only merchants)...or like only French merchants north of Brest.

What will happen, if I still attack a Britisch warship? Or a French merchant, but nowhere near Brest?
Are these messages just part of the mod (they're great, btw), or should I really take note of them?

For the spirit of immersion, you should listen to your messages... Unless of course you plan on being a rogue u-boat commander. In which case Donitz will personally shoot you in the head when you RTB.

But to answer your question, no. None of the radio messages really make a difference. Britain, France, and other nations flip and flop sides at different times throughout the war, but there's nothing really stoping you from sinking their ships... Unless you dislike negative renown... :D

The radio chatter is fun and immersive. Just use it to pretend that you are really out at sea, and the time is WWII... You and your tiny little boat, against all of the mighty Allied superpowers.

Yes, that's why I like them!

For historical reference, I rely on this image I found in my old SH3 files...someone on SimHQ once posted it:
