Better ship damage

A chalange to all the modders out there..Watching a ship sink after taking damage is cool,So i was wondering if it was possible to show a reasionable torpedo hole and better detailed ship when broken in half..this will put a strain on the graphics frame rate, but if it can be done can some one try it.. :hmm:

Here's a new oil tanker I'm making for an upcoming cargo ship pack. Its metal deforms when it breaks up, simulating the effects of blast and intense heat. This still needs some work, since the two halves are almost totally transparent at certain angles. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to make torpedo holes that would be accurate based on where the ship was struck.

Look at the new ships thread for a few more examples of this modding.

I really want the next major subsim to feature enhanced damage modeling out of the box. 'Nascar Racing 2' was produced some years ago and had excellent simulation of metal damage, so it's definitely possible for a modern computer game.

I was just wondering - when you make your ship halves, do you use the bulkheads that are placed over the broken end? They are not visible from all angles under wings3d though - here is a stern picture.

If you are not using something like this, the hull could be transparent if you looked at it from the untextured interior - I have had the same problem with open superstructure parts.

Or I could be completely wrong.
