Must have book for subsimmers

Everyone here probably already knows about it, but just in case...."U-Boat Commander's Handbook"

Available on Amazon, etc. Had my copy for years now. If you want to know how things were *really* done, it's a must have.[/url]

And I'm finally having my copy in the first week of December :D
I also ordered the "The Type VII U-Boat", anatomy of the ship series.

Lol, when I asked from a local bookstore about ordering that Handbook in last May, the price would have been over 50 USD's, via Amazon I got it about 9 USD + shipping. :88) Well, finally I decided to order it and just few more days left... :smug:

German readers can get a full reproduction copy of the original off ebay for around $15 + P&P.

Another book i'd recommend is : Memoirs.. Ten Years and Twenty Days by Karl Doenitz

I've read this book twice.........and justed started it up again...for a third time. This is "How it began" too "How it ended"...and everything in between......
VERY GOOD reading... :know:

Speaking of books, I just bought DAS BOOT by Buchheim.
This book is cheap, about 20$ canadian and it's 500 pages!

We've all seen the movie 3-4 times ( or more! ) now you guys must get this novel!
Nothing beats reading about a convoy attack in the comfort of your own bed!
The only down side so far is the German translation.

I´ve seen people saying that I should order the "Iron Coffins", well I ordered it yesterday.

What your thoughs of the book?

Krupp 12-02-05 10:01 AM

Iron Coffins is very good book, the story is amazing . If I knew nothing about it and someone would make it as a Hollywood movie I wouldn't believe it's true.

PS. Today they arrived :D U-Boat Commander's Handbook & Anatomy of the ship: The Type VII U-Boat :sunny:

Just gave a quick glance at them and

I'm not a big fan of memoirs myself, for various reasons, but it's worth a read.

Good for you! And more from it: I've been reading it for the whole afternoon and evening so far (about half of it). It certainly will change my playing style for sure. Now, I don't have to guess anymore how did they do this and that. It gives you the frames to cope out there in different situations. Gives more "authentic" approach to the game. The game has it's limits of course but you can compensate pretty much with your own attitude, dead is dead and etc.
