Icebergs
Hello all,
... Looking at the .rnd campaign file here and I have a question. Has ANYONE actually seen an iceberg in-patrol in career mode? |
Kind of embarrassing, but a long time ago I actually hit one and sank off the coast of Labrador. Seriously, I did - I'm not joking. The most idiotic thing I've ever done on patrol...

I have yet to see one in career mode. I have been beginning to think that the iceberg feature was broken. Just for confirmation's sake... has anyone else seen one? |
They are out there up North but from what I have seen in other threads on the subject very few were put in.So you will almost never see one.

Thanks CWorth.... gives me some ideas. :smug:

Actually there are several of them. They all start north of the Arctic Circle, and I think all drift southward. They are defined in the .RND layer. It's a big ocean though, and you might never see one. If you are handy with the mission editor, make a single mission and put a few in. As someone said, don't hit one (in the dark).
TT Please forgive the length of the following, but here they are: (EDIT: Let's shorten this up a little) GroupName=Iceberg_39_01 Group# = RndGroup 1 Starting Lat = 70.45 Starting Lon = -65.35 Game entry date = 1939/11/03 Game exit date = 1940/05/02 Speed = 5 knots DelayMinInterv = 2,220 Unit 1 = Iceberg (Environmental) Total units = 1 Waypoints = 9 Route length (in-game) = 4,698.5 km (3,436.9 km actual) Time on map (in-game) = 507.4 hours (30,444 minutes) Ending Lat = 44.00 Ending Lon = -43.25 GroupName=Iceberg_39_02 Group# = RndGroup 2 Starting Lat = 71.75 Starting Lon = -56.92 Game entry date = 1939/11/03 Game exit date = 1940/05/02 Speed = 5 knots DelayMinInterv = 1,860 Unit 1 = Iceberg (Environmental) Total units = 1 Waypoints = 6 Route length (in-game) = 3,694.3 km (2,664.6 km actual) Time on map (in-game) = 398.9 hours (23,937 minutes) Ending Lat = 51.20 Ending Lon = -36.28 GroupName=Iceberg_39_03 Group# = RndGroup 3 Starting Lat = 71.32 Starting Lon = -61.78 Game entry date = 1939/11/03 Game exit date = 1940/05/02 Speed = 5 knots DelayMinInterv = 3,060 Unit 1 = Iceberg (Environmental) Total units = 1 Waypoints = 8 Route length (in-game) = 4,626.5 km (3,372.2 km actual) Time on map (in-game) = 499.6 hours (29,977 minutes) Ending Lat = 47.27 Ending Lon = -39.17 GroupName=Iceberg_39_04 Group# = RndGroup 4 Starting Lat = 72.92 Starting Lon = -19.25 Game entry date = 1939/11/03 Game exit date = 1940/05/02 Speed = 5 knots DelayMinInterv = 2,220 Unit 1 = Iceberg (Environmental) Total units = 1 Waypoints = 7 Route length (in-game) = 3,817.1 km (2,323.3 km actual) Time on map (in-game) = 412.2 hours (24,733 minutes) Ending Lat = 56.08 Ending Lon = -36.08 Lot's more.... And timetraveller wins the longest post of the year award!
BTw, in my Bismarck movie, you can see the icebergs nicely when the ships are near the icepacs of Greenland. |

TT- I think I found 60 Iceberg entries in the .rnd layer. I have even gone far north of the game map hunting for them. (before I noticed the spawn dates) Maybe they just don't come too far south... will check some of the long/lats in the M.E. Type 941- Yessir! I have all versions of your Bismarck movie and remember a scene where one of the ships passes behind an iceberg in the fog... and a lightning strike at the same time... VERY COOL SHOT! I may eventually due some tinkering with the last IC mod to increase the commonality of icebergs in certain areas at certain times. |
