Ships sinking without any map_mark and log entry?
I've just sunk a C2 at grid AN52, the ships was hit by a torpedo and then shot dead by my deck gun.
Oddly, :o it fainted away from the (F5) map without the usual sunk ship mark and without any noticeable mark on the captain's log. Probably a bug. So, how can I fix that? Thanks, Temujin |
:ahoy: Temujin, so you had a map icon of a sunken ship and it faded?
:hmm: I have had times when I sink a ship and nothing is recorded on map because of bad weather or I was submerged deep and running away; but never one that fades away. This next question may sound silly but I have to ask what flag was she flying (the C2)? :lurk: |
Some answers..
1. The ship was British (enemy merchant).
2. The sea was calm. The time was night (01:40 am) 3. There was no sunken ship icon at all, only the normal red ship icon fading as she sunk. Temujin |
This happens occasionally I guess its a game bug.

tell me about it. playing a dead is dead campaign, 100%, 2nd patrol, only 2 ships sunk, last 4 fish in the bow tubes, made contact w/ an enemy task group off gib. high speed run on surface (night-time) to get into position for a submerged approach. manually targetted 5000m fan shot against a kgv battleship, 3 hits, target sank... red sunken ship icon, but no credit in log or at end of patrol. that was the end of that nights session.

I had the same happen too. I found an unescorted liner and sunk it (and got credit for this one), we barely covered 100km before discovering another one. I was so happy and amazed to find another one so soon, so I sunk it and was intensly dissapointed when it gave me no credit :damn:
I guess BdU just didn't believe me that I had sunk 2 liners within an hour  |
Must have been the ghost of the first liner not knowing it was supposed to be dead.

game bug?
ahh this explains better what has happened to me in other past careers - sink ship get no icon but get credit, I thought wrong then, thinking I had to watch it sink to confirm it as kill... OK TY I understand better now. :lurk: |
I think theres a credit criteria, but im not sure what it is.
I can tell you from blatant abuse of saving/loading (purely out of expermenation) that if you score a leathal hit on a ship, save the game, quit, and reload the same game before it sinks, you wont get credit. Ive also noticed in stormy weather that you have be close enough to count the rivets in its hull before the ship is identified by the game as an unknown (grey) to enemy (red). I think if you score a hit on it under this condition and if it does not sink within a certain radius (being a very small radius in rotton weather), you wont get credit. Beyond that i've no idea. |
Hmm, that's odd.
However once I had a wierd situation. I torpedoed a ship and decided to wait for it to sink (it was still moving quite fast). For a couple of seconds it got out of my sight. Then I find it already sinking (there was the sunken ship icon) and I get no credit for the kill... So from now on after I torpedo some ship I always stay close enough to see her sink... |
