Poll: U-124. Capt. to XO
After one week enroute to DH44 U-124 encountered a twenty-ship, heavily escorted convoy breaking out of Gib at CG42. Sunk two and have almost a complete load of fuel and torpedos, however the escorts are hammering a brutal beating with deadly accuracy.
Currently surfaced performing major repairs and loading deck torpedos; targets are now just beyond visual range, course steady at 5 kts. The Chief reports flooding contained and repairs underway. You are my Executive Officer. 11th patrol with a decorated and seasoned, yet tired crew. December, 1941. D.I.D. and 100%. |
Providing the boat is capable I would recommend a change of course to run parallel to the convoy. As you already know the course and speed make a high speed run and get directly in its path. For best results a night attack is preferred. Dive the boat to 100m (or as deep as you feel comfortable with given all the damage you've already sustained) and wait at silent speed. Surface decks awash directly under the forward edge of the convoy 90 deg to course between the lanes, have all your firing solutions pre set for both fore and aft tubes. Torpedo speed settings to fast. depth to 5 or 6m and impact triggers enabled. If you are at 90 deg then the eels should impact ok. Let the elephants come to you, pick out your targets and Torpedos Loose!. Depending on the escorts take the boat down a bit, reload the stern tubes first and perhaps get a parting shot as a goodbye present.
Can't count the times this exact scenario has worked for me. I always use the convoy and the confusion to mask my exit. Stormy weather is even better. Remember, Donitz rewards courage and boldness. Tonnage is all that matters. Good Hunting Captain. |
There will be more targets, I'd wait for easier ones.
Tonnage = same You = live longer |
FIRE YOU PUSSYDOG! :arrgh!:

In the words of BDU; "Press the attack!"

BE MORE AGRESSIVE !!!! Heck.. if you run out of eels, ram the rest underwater if you have to !!!
*Now you see why heavy drinking is a must for the crews of the UBoats I command*:arrgh!: |
