What UBOAT do YOU play?! :D
Let's see if the numbers are representative...
Current career, what submarine are you commanding? :D :arrgh!: Rrr... stupid board won't let me have as many poll options as I wannaaa... |
I like the IX soley because of the extra torp tube in the back....
|
I prefer the TypeII A&D and TypeVIIC boats simlply because I feel they can get me out of trouble as fast as I got into it with their diving speeds.
|
IXC in the Caribbean at the moment, but I usually prefer the good looks of the VIIB :)
|
I've got a total of 16 patrols in a IIA so far, and 1 in a VIIB.
|
I really like the trusty IIA. It's an early workhorse, and it quite simply "suffices". As in all wars, what suffices is perfect! :D
I do, however, fancy the VIIC a lot... But I haven't gotten more than a few hours in the IX, and haven't had my feet inside the Elektro-boot. |
I love my IIA
|
I have 1 campaign where I use nothing but IID's and one where I use the IXD2. I do love my IID though, i've gotten 30k+ tonage with it in the past.

VIIC right now...June 1941.

VIIB Sept. 1940........ :ahoy:
|
I was in an IXB and C, but later restarted a new career in a Type VII B cause my patrols were just too damn long.
Admittidly ive edited my basic.cfg files so the VIIB can equip everything an VIIC can. I like the VIIB because its a wee bit farther in surface range, and is 1 knot faster submerged. The downside is the lack of later upgrades and dive time. Well i sort of "fixed" the upgrades, and live with the 3 second longer dive time. Ive also used time travellers depth mod. It will allow th VII a max depth of like 260. I like going deep, but i do like limitations. Using said depth mod, you can make a VIIC go 300 meters, a C/41 350, and a c/42 400. Tempting, but i think its overkill. So all told i like my modifed version of a VIIB, as modding your own game goes, its a great compromise. |
I like the VIIC due to the faster dive times and it is pretty obtainable fairly early on during the war. The XX1 is what I would really like, but it appears later in the war, and I still can't figure out how to use its semi-active sonar, has anyone found out yet? The other good point of the early subs is that deck gun when you don't want to finish off those wounded merchants that refuse to sink and you don't really want to use another torpedo.

:) IXC seems to be a good choice between torpedo tubes and guns. Good Hunting, Erich Topp U-552

VIIC June 1942 Wolves at war campaign. Sitting on the bottom in Grid AM93 waiting till dark then surface to enter liverpool harbour.
IXC 1943 SH3 campaign near america |
For me it's the Type VIIC.
I used to like the Type IX's, but being sent to far off corners of the ocean got a tad bit boring for me - I want to get there NOW! The Type II's are great...for a few patrols, before I get frustrated with their small loadouts. The VIIC is a perfect compromise, plus it's readily upgradable as the war progresses. |
