About transeferring to a different Flotilla

It's now October 1940 and I'm still in my Type IIA with the 1st Flotilla, and still don't have the option to upgrade to anything else, not even a IID. I decided to transfer to the 7th Flotilla in St. Nazaire so I can get a better boat, and to be closer to the better hunting grounds. When I clicked on the 7th Flotilla to transfer, it immediately said my request was approved. When I embarked on my patrol, a message came up saying "New base St. Nazaire" or something to that effect, although my mission orders still said

Starting base: Kiel
Return to: Kiel

So, aren't my mission orders supposed to be updated to reflect that I'm now to return to St. Nazaire? I'm going to sail there myself anyway when I'm out of fish, but I don't want the game to not recognize that it's my new base when I get there and have weird problems like not getting assigned a patrol grid and stuff.

Also, in case I don't have enough fuel to reach St. Nazaire (still in a type IIA) and I have to exit the patrol, if I will be teleported to Kiel or St. Nazaire? Anyone know any of these answers?

I think that when you get transferred mid-patrol, your orders are NOT updated. I think in RL, your orders were just a packet of papers, so they would not get updated when you recieved a radio message to transfer to another base.

But I didn't transfer mid-patrol, I did it while in base. I'm not sure I know exactly what you said. Should I expect a radio message reminding me to go to St. Nazaire instead of Kiel or what?

Yes, during the game, you will get transferred in mid-patrol, as your flotilla gets transferred to different bases during the war.

Sorry I wasn't that clear before - Today, I'm trying to be the first to post in every new thread in about four different message boards......I'm so bored.... :(

Thing is, though, is that 1st Flotilla isn't transferring to a new base, they're staying at Kiel. I requested a transfer to the 7th Flotilla while in base between patrols. So, should I expect a radio message reminding me to go to St. Nazaire? If I manually go to St. Nazaire will it be recognized as my base even though my mission orders say return to Kiel? If I "exit patrol" without being in range of St. Nazaire, then which base will I magically be whisked to - St. Nazaire or Kiel?

uhhh........that IS wierd. :hmm: 1940? Are you using any mods that change flotilla locations?

Yes I have SHIII Commander. Why did I not mention that in my first post? :damn:

Is it possible that you might have done something funky with Commander that may have something to do with this? I've found Commander to very reliable except when I start tinkering with it or the game.

I dunno, maybe the Commander creator will swing by and he can help. :hmm:

Thing is, I don't know if this is a bug or not. I'm thinking it might just be the way the game is. Is it? That's why I'm asking! I've never transferred Flotillas before, so I was hoping someone who had could come on here and say "oh yeah that's normal, go to St. Nazaire" or "Whoa that's messed up you need to reload your old game before you get too far into this patrol."

P.S. I'm really dreading my "promotion" to the Medic avatar, and I know it's coming up sometime soon

Can't you just save the game without exiting,
then exit and return (via teleport) to base?

Take note of where you wind up.

Then restart your patrol from where you saved, and go where you are supposed to go.

I am guessing that you are supposed to go back to Kiel, but the patrol after that you will start from St. Nazaire.

- Let us know what happens. (I'm curious, because I will be doing a transfer request myself in the next patrol or two.)

Alright, I'll post when I figure it out, unless of course someone else spells it out for us.

This is just the way the game is. There are a few bugs in the standard game's transfer functions. If you go to the wrong base, the worst that can happen is that you lose a few renown points. But I'm pretty sure you need to go to St. Nazaire as you were told. I think you can safely ignore the orders in the logbook. They don't update based on a transfer.

It all worked out fine. After expending my torpedoes, I snuck through the Channel and docked at St. Nazaire. It shows that I can now upgrade to the boats available to the 7th Flotilla and all that, so it looks like it worked.

SteamWake 11-17-05 01:53 PM

O happy day you got out of Kiel !

I always hate the trip in and out of that place.

HEMISENT 11-17-05 03:39 PM

Kiel is a pain. I've requested transfer twice and was denied twice.
I'm going to be such a pain in the ass they'll be glad to get rid of me.
