Release 2.3 of SH3 Commander is now available!

Release 2.3 of SH3 Commander is now available!

Changes:

- Crew Manager component updated: promoting, demoting or awarding any medal or badge now has the same effect as if awarded via SH3
- Corrected available U-boat numbers for all U-boat types - by Beery
- SH3 ship class labels now included with real ship names in patrol logs
- Added ability to randomise gramophone tracks (based on original concept of JXP's)
- Added ability to adjust wave height (based on original concept of TimeTraveller's)
- Now uses EnglishNames.cfg for comparing ship labels when French language is selected
- New surrender feature added for "dead" careers
- Now recognises new careers which are mid-first patrol
- Now works around the SH3 bug which in some instances writes career start dates as 0's
- Added ability to adjust time compression values
- Added ability to modify Basic.cfg renown, medals and promotion values (via editable cfg file)
- When starting a new career, selected year and Flotilla are added to the SH3 new career screen
- Now uses correct date for copying files when continuing careers mid-patrol
- Health status of crewmen now included on Crew Manager screen and in Crew Lists
- Added "Summary" title to Personnel File
- First names, last names and place names now sourced from .lst files in cfg folder. Unlimited names can be added (SH3Cmdr.ini listed names no longer used)
- Captain's Log reformatted to look more like a real Kriegstagebuch
- Improved HTML code

There are three configurations available for download:

1. SH3Cmdr23Lite.exe. This is the "Lite" version containing all SH3 Commander files *except* the ship skins and will be the file downloaded if you use SH3 Commander's "Updates" feature. If you have SH3 Commander Release 2.2, this configuration will be sufficient as you already have the ship skins. You can also use this version if you don't want the ship skins - no previous version of SH3 Commander is required. Size 19.4mb
2. SH3Cmdr23.exe. This is the full installation release including ship skins. No previous installation of SH3 Commander is required. Size 43.1mb
3. SH3Cmdr23.7z. As per #2, but without installer. Size 31.3mb

Read instructions before installing.

**Late manual errata: In SH3Cmdr Help.html, under "Installation", if you do have a previous installation of SH3 Commander...and it is prior to Release 2.2 step 3 should say "3. run the SH3Cmdr23.exe or SH3Cmdr23Lite.exe setup wizard, installing over the top of your existing installation.".

As always, please post your questions/feedback/problems to this thread...

This stuff sounds so cool, but I hesitate to enter into the world of mods...

... because now that I've finally gotten the game to load and run flawlessly (at least in my estimation) after months of video card and RAM problems, I hate to fix something that is seemingly not broken. I've read some posts from people having all sorts of problems with some of these mods. But then, I've also read posts from others who love the mods to bits, and wouldn't leave port without them. So I'm torn between lumbering along in a 'stock' game, and trying to upgrade life to 'super' status. :hmm:

What to do, what to do.

I've tried downloading some of the mods just to look at them (filewise) and the jibberish I see (like a video file) sort of makes me wonder what I'm getting into - so I don't get into anything. I don't know if I'm missing something spectacular, or just some mild improvements that I can live without. I guess I'm just not ready to take the chance on messing up the game that it took months to get running in the first place. I think it's called being a "chicken". :shifty:

Tommy,
I felt the same at one point. I think many players have felt the same way as you after getting their system and game working correctly. You will truly find that the larger mod packs, or any mod for that matter, will add much to your experience.

Try dipping your toe into a few individual mods, your boat skins perhaps, and maybe avoid mods that will tax your system until you feel that things are still ok.

HELP! CONFUSED!

I am getting ready to install SH3 Commander for the first time, but I am getting somewhat confused as to the right way to do this.

I am using a fresh patched install of SH3, over which I have installed the latest IUB mod. (tested it, and working fine)

First, what are the basic steps to install Commander 2.3? (The instructions have a lot of info about installing over previous versions - I just want to do a basic install.)

Second, am I correct in my understanding that I launch SH3 from Commander only when I'm in port, but I launch SH3 directly when I'm in mid-mission? (And what about finishing a patrol and starting a new one in the same session?)

Third, how does Commander handle the time spent in port, vis-a-vis the Milch Cow Mod that is included with IUB?

I know these are pretty basic, but I'm just not getting it for some reason. Appreciate any assistance.

The best keeps getting better. :D

Thanks folks.

OK I will take a shot Skubber. ;)

1 - you said SH3 and IUB I take it then you got the official patch in between those installs? Get the self installer version of Cmdr.

2- you can launch/start anytime from SH3 Cmdr from my experience - BUT if you make ANY CHANGES you will possibly corrupt files...do not make any changes to crew or options unless you are in port, but you can start from SH3 Cmdr

3- not sure about number three since I have not tried the latest incarnation.

g/l <g>

OMG Avon you crak me up :-j

excellent. to the people afraid to use any mods - you have no idea what you're missing.

after installing i have to comment. this is really great stuff. the sh3 options are just getting better. the ability to change time compression for different game events is outstanding. thanks to all again.

Ok Avon Lady.. Very good 'jab'. :rotfl:

I'm mid-patrol right now, so I'm going to wait until I'm back in the pens (or dead - GASP!).

And the rest of you? Thanks too. I'm convinced. I guess I'm just going to have to give this a try. Maybe I'll do it on my 'install' on my laptop first, just to give me the confidence. I'm telling you, with all the problems and crashes and "Blue Screens of Death" I went through to get this thing running, this is a real "leap of faith" to do this...

But thanks for the encouragement. I really do appreciate it!
