New night sky & ocean textures.
***Edit:
Here the link for download. It's just a beta with the Atlantic files. Later is possible to add all the environments (Mediterranean and Artic sea/sky - it's just a cut and paste matter now). I guess that all guys who want a bit more clear night than the RUB's one can try it. Any feedback are welcome. http://rapidshare.de/files/7105848/N...nd_sky.7z.html ============================================= Hi guys, In the last days I'm messing with the night sky and night sea textures. My goal is to make a less darker sea than RUB's one, with a little more reflection but yet less bright than the stock night sea. For the night sky my goal is to make a nice dark blue degrade. I guess that all these two objectives were achieved. Here are some pics, but we know, the compressed jpg loss a bit the details and you need a full screen and dark room to see the differences between these textures and RUB's/stock ones. If somebody like it I can post. They are compatible with the new Atmospheric mod. Notice (in fullscreen and in a dark room) the less darker/more reflective sea and the nice sky degrade. I suggest that you save them and then open in a image viewer: http://img372.imageshack.us/img372/4...eansky12sg.jpg http://img372.imageshack.us/img372/5...eansky24wk.jpg http://img372.imageshack.us/img372/9...eansky37yn.jpg http://img372.imageshack.us/img372/1...eansky41tq.jpg Rubini. |
WOW!!! So that's what you've been up to... I love it!!!
May we incorporate that into the atmospheric mod??? You'll get your credit... :hmm: PM me a link if you allow us to use it... |
Yes definitely!! Those colors ROCK!!!
|
Of course you may use them. Perhaps doing a optional SkyColors's files. I guess that, in special, the people who have a "dark monitor" will like it a lot because the night is slight more clear than the RUB's night.
I just have the Atlantic file. But all the night textures are the same on the three SH3 SkyColor's files. So is just a matter to cut and paste. It's later here in Brasil (5:30 AM!!!). I will go to bed. When I weak up I will send a PM with the file to you marhkimov. Rubini. |
water seems a lil bright to my tastes, but i absolutely LOVE that sky, the way it fades from light on the horizon to black
*edit* also on a side note rubini, i dunno if anyone ever posted seeing the dolphins in the HT mod, but i saw some in cadiz in 1940, awesome!!! too bad i don't play with external view so i couldn't check 'em out close, only saw them jumping out of the water here n there |
The sky color is great, btw.
but I have to agree with thasaint about the ocean... some people might prefer to have a darker ocean. But different people have different opinions, and it is hard to please everyone. I don't know where I'm going with this..... |
I think it is good and can be a happy medium that people can tweak later...
just my two cents. :arrgh!: |
It all looks too light to me. :-?
I've been on ocean cruises in the evenings and never saw skies where blue is so discernable at night. Same with the bright green ocean. I'm currently playing with RUb and Ail's sky mod, which seem very real to me. |

I think constructive criticism should be encouraged. There certainly is no insult intended here. When it comes to SH3 skies and waters, the number of people dabbling in this has become so enormous that we might need something like a sky and water selector added into SH3 Commander, so that everyone can chose between 2 or 3 dozen of them. |

Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies. I liked all the comments. My intention was make a possible choice for the RUB night stuff, mainly for my taste and for peoples who want a little more clear nigth. So it can be used as an optional night package for who want it. It's just a beautiful alternative. Rubini. |
Cool, thanks Rubini.
The problem with the light settings in SH3 is due to: 1) People have wildly varying monitors, brightness settings, and working environments. 2) SH3 doesn't model moonlight. On a clear moonlit night at sea you can see up to around 10 miles; with plenty of light to pick out details. On a cloudy night with no moon, it'll be nearly pitch black. Unfortunately SH3 only models one ambient light setting no matter what, and there are no moon reflections or anything else. Also, in my opinion, for maximum realism, you want the ocean to be darker than the sky - as it can only reflect what light it gets from the sky/environment, and much of this light is refracted down, thus reducing the sea brightness. As for me, I use BeeryWater, but I'll check out this - a gradient night sky might be an improvement. |
@ Avon Lady :
Hi Lady :D , the visibility at night depnd on many factors, if you are at shore near to a very ilumintated city, you will see nothing if you look at the sea. The same if you are in a cruiser, very iluminated. :dead: But if you ar at middle of the ocen, in a full moon night, and no iluminated city near, and your ship has any light swithched on, and you pupiles are adapted at this condition by many minutes, you can have a determined spotting condition. :sunny: Terence Robertson tells Kpt, Krestchmer was ware about to not have the moon at back when perform his night attack, because the enemy ships was able to spot his sub silouette. Of course, Kpt. kretschmer was famous due to his very near night attack, some time he pass into two lines of ships separated by under 1km, if i am not rmeber bad. About the non black sky, it may be posible at hight latitudes where in some times of the year, we never have a real dark night. It is not common at populated areas, but for sailor or flying crew who was at hight latitudes it is more common. Any way you must to take in consideration..... it is a game, and some times, some of us want to enjoy the spectacle.... :rotfl: Best regards, Red. |
It's also possible to use only the sky with RUB's sea at night. It's a player's choice. For my tastes RUB's sea is excessively dark and with urticaria's appearance but this is a SH3 fault (no real light simulate). I will post the files for download in minutes so somebody can try on. :yep:
