Google Earth and WWII USN submarines

For those of you who have Google Earth, click here for an excellent virtual tour of the sites of all 52 USN submarines lost in World War II.

Each placemark in the tour has a photo of the boat and detailed information - including the circumstances of the sinking, the men lost, and an outline of the overall career of the boat.

Highly recommended, as is Google Earth itself (for those that don't have it).

Man, I spent four hours on GoogleEarth last night. First looking through the sub sinkings, then off to other forums. It's such an amazing program and the ability for people to add their own placemarkers is wonderful.

Yeah, I spend much too much time browsing around. It's an amazing product in itself - especially for a freebie - and the inclusion of the community features, and the community itself, make it even cooler.

Last night I found the (rather low-res but visible) U-boat pens and bunkers at Lorient all by myself, and felt really proud. Great fun. :D
