Where do I start?
I would like some advice on how is the best way to get to grips with DW. I played SC some time ago and remember having a few tutorail missions to work through, is there anything like that with DW? I do have the printed manual but have not installed the game on my new pc yet. I got a bit overawed by the manual. Would be grateful for any good pointers. :help:

There's some tutorials on CD #2.

Try to find one of the guides that are available and read one or two of them.
Try the Landlubbers Guide on www.subguru.com for starters! |
:sunny: Welcome Dazz - nice avatar - I really have a weakness for funny avatars - I must have been deprived in my infancy.
When you look at a pig she seems a lot to eat - but you eat it a slice at a time. My recco. is to pick one platform and master it. I think its best to get a handle on a sub first so go to the Seawolves site and dl The Blue Book. It might be at Bills Sub Guru site, where u can also get Tacman a superb guide by Timmyg00 . Go to Tips and Tweaks by OneShot and theres a heap of useful stuff there. Look at the Fleets - the Seawolves have excellent training course. Watch out for the wizards like Fish, Bill Nichols, Molon Labe, OKO, TLAM, MSGalilleo (Of the superb slapping penguin ;) ) Not an exhaustive list but folk who know a heck of a lot and will willingly answer your questions Finaly get in the MP waters and stir-up some of the red stuff.. |
Well the Ladnlubbers seems to be the best starting point in my opinion. It covers all things from a Noob (no pun intended) point of view and gives you directions on where to find ore stuff. So take a look at that first and then go on further.

The best way to learn to swim is jumping right into the water. Go to www.subguru.com and download 'We dive at dawn'-mission. Just start playing and try to go on in the mission. Don't use to much time-acceleration. Just drive your boat and meanwhile read about the stations in the manual. Stop the timer, if you have to do something special and check the manual before you do something. Save the game with every new task. Make experiments as you wish.
It was after I had done exactly this, that I had the feeling of getting 'a foot in the door' of this sim. |
@Bellman : Allready working on that, seems that again a script has spilled from another account onto the OW account. Hopefully this will be fixed today.

You can do a simple mission multistation with someone who knows a platform you're getting into - just tell him ahead of time that you actually have no clue. I've done that sort of thing with somebody. Just try to be on teamspeak or similar, and it'll help you a lot, as the other guy can tell you what to do. (see me online, feel free to ask...) |
Thanks for all your advice and pointers will charge the ringmain, uncotter the main vents dive to a safe depth, and have a go!
:lurk: |
