Ya know I totally agree with that statement but what amazes me is the ding dong kids and gangs whoever who seem to use it as an excuse to go nutz...Of course the proper and American thing to do would to have staged a similar counter protest or whatever, instead of sinking below the lvl of the Nazi guys...Only in America can you have so much diversity... I guess we can't have it all. :(

Some poor guy loses his bar because it happened to take place in that neighborhood and the burning of it ya can't blame on the Nazi's...The criminal element I notice always takes advantage of situations like this no matter the race though so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

I don't care for what they have to say. And I'm not sure the mayor is completely correct, because "disturbing the peace" covers all kinds of stuff, including having your stereo too loud in your own home, your dog barking all night long in your own backyard. These guys were walking down the street, yelling racial insults. If that's not god damn disturbing the peace, I'm not sure what is.

"Disturbing the peace" aside, I absolutely agree with the mayor. Freedom of speech means the King George won't chuck you in a prison using a lettre de cachet, and forget about you. It doesn't mean your employer won't fire you for "conduct unbecomming an employee of Microsoft". It means you won't go to prison, and that's as far as it extends. Regardless of the reprehensibility of their message, that's part of speech freedom, unless they were advocating violence (we're going to kill all you <plural version of a black racial slur>).

So. I don't agree with what they were doing. I'm not sure why the mayor didn't have them arrested for "disturbing the peace". However, the response to the Nazi's "protest" shows the underlying social problems in Toledo, specifically the racial aggression toward "whites" in the area.

Sad thing is, the protestors did exactly what the Neo-Nazis say they do. Actions speak far louder than words, hence why the neo's didn't even bother to rally/talk.

Third post in that thread is the National Socialist Movement's call for participants in the meeting, together with a code of conduct for participants (I like their point 5: "Individuals expressing inappropriate political messages may be asked to leave the march." :doh: ; 6 is pretty remarkable too.)

The remainder of the thread has some comments on the event, they appear to consider it a public relations victory with relatively little effort required (because getting such media attention would have been very difficult without the riot).

The Freedom of Speech issue will be a source of conflict for decades to come. No matter how reprehensible the message was by the Neo-Nazis, they had the right to march on city property...just as the local NAACP has that right also. I had a friend of mine fired from his job because he posted on a blog his displeasure with another co-worker that kisses a$$ at work, that he didn't even name, but since everyone knows who it is they didn't need the name posted. I was repremanded at work myself because I told someone in personel "your insurance plan is a krock and maybe if I file a greivance something will get done." The irony is that the second part of the sentence was in my repremand.

Also, my employer has an "open door" policy that was addressed in our latest newsletter. A fellow employee was wondering if we had an open door policy why are people disciplined, or lashed at, for going to higher levels of management? The VP of Personell defended the open door policy that it works, however, "you still need to go thru your chain of command"...in essence telling you the open door policy was null and void.

caucasian people are the minority in the usa? where'd you get that? they are the majority of the population, the majority of business leaders, the majority of teachers, and the majority of politicians.

after reviewing official census bureau reports i am forced to retract my statement. Apparently the person who was starting to me that caucasion people were now minorities was just spouting racial propaganda. my appologies.

Not to defend the NAZI swine, they never left their staging area and left when the City demanded they leave when it became apparent that things were going bad quickly.

The bar/gas station and it's owners got hit because that's where the punks were.

The violence that occured happened because it was allowed to happen. :down: The Mayor is up for re-election next week, afterall. :damn:
