New ATI Adaptive anti-aliasing and SH3. Great!
Hi guys,
After read this article "A way to enable adaptive anti-aliasing in the last Catalyst drivers" in www.rage3d.com and made some tests these are my impressions with SH3: this feature introduce a great visual improvement in SH3 (specially at harbours) for the ATi Radeons owners. I'm using the Cat 5.9 with the last release of the Ati Tray tools which already incorporate this new optional adaptive AA. Until now this feature was only present in Nvidia 7800 and old 3Dfx cards. Here the link for the entire article http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24069 This new feature makes AA on the alpha textures. The Visual are the same that old 3Dfx 5500...awesome! :o  :know: Here the pics (X800XtPE) . Note the jags on the cranes even with 4AA/8AF . (The day light is no intentional - AAA = Adaptive AA): No AAA http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/2...tiveaa11fw.jpg With AAA http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/5...tiveaa16by.jpg No AAA http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/5...tiveaa25zr.jpg With AAA http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/4...tiveaa22ic.jpg With AAA http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/3...tiveaa34av.jpg With AAA http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/3...tiveaa48pl.jpg Rubini. |

Download and install the latest "ATI Tray Tools": http://www.guru3d.com/article/atitraytools/189/ Start it, right-click on the ATT system tray icon, select Tweaks/Advanced Tweaks, and unselect "No Support for Adaptive AA" under Additional Tweaks. Apply the change and reboot the PC. Right-click the ATT icon again, then you can activate AAA under Direct3d/Antialiasing. AAA only works if you either have Antialiasing enabled in the game you play or if you force Antialiasing via ATT or the standard ATI Control Panel. |

To use this new feature of Adaptive A.A.: 1) do I need to use catalyst 5.9 or could I apply it also to previous drivers releases (like 5.8)? 2) do I need to use the Catalyst Control Center (CCC) or is it fine to use the old Control Panel? 3) do I need to modify registry values (as described in the forum topic posted above) or could I just install the ATT system tray icon and follow the procedure you described? |

Do you use the res-fix for higher resolutions above 1024x768???
When I changed to Cat 5.9 and wanted to try AAA with SHIII I realized that it won´t start anymore. Only without the res-fix it´s working. But 1024 res I don´t wanna use and the AAA is just too nice to go back to Cat 5.8. So... atm I am not able to play SHIII how I want to :nope: <Moderator edit: Part of message removed - Gizzmoe> |

I was just going to post the same message. The Ati Tools Toolbar installed just fine, I select the AAA (following the procedure described above) but then I'm having problems with STARFORCE...it will not check the dvd anymore and the game won't start. So that is because I'm using the Sartori fix to play with 1280*1024 resolution. <Moderator edit: Part removed> |
Guys, I advise you to read the forum rules:

Catalyst 5.9 and AAA work great on my computer however; I highly recommend it. SH III and Mission builder load and run with no problem. |

Here I am again.
Just tried the last few hours where the probelm is. After I changed to Cat 5.8 it also denied starting. So the problem had to be another... luckily I discovered that Ati Tray Tools new version should be the hint. If it´s off you can start both programms. Strange, but that´s how it works at my sys. |
