first patrol using RuB 1.44

hope this isn't a trend

first off let me apologize for having no screenshots, they didn't save for some reason, and i usually try taking screens in SH3, and using fraps, but apparantly my fraps was closed somehow >.<, and SH3 didn't save them

anyways, started in 1944 11th flotilla, leave bergen, sail west, in the first grid i pass through, run right smack into a taskforce passing right across my bow. 2 didos and an illustrious escorted by various DD's, sunk 1 dido and the carrier. didn't even need to run my engines, just let 'em come to me

sail to my patrol grid, do my 24, then sail down to that northern choke point for inbound convoys northeast of ireland, run into another convoy, this one coming straight at me. 1 escort in front, 1 to port, 1 to starboard

another note on this convoy, the shape was different than most i've seen with this "improved convoys" mod that's in RuB now, only 3 rows, with about 8-10 ships in each row, instead of many rows with 3-4 ships in each, was this changed for RuB 1.44 since the latest improved convoys posted on sept. 30th? or are convoys in this style in late war convoys only? i never really got to 1944

2nd ship in the middle row is a king george V class :o . i've never seen one of these before and i've been playing this game a lot. put 3 torps into her, 1 into a c2, both are dead in the water, go deep, wait for the convoy to move off with her escorts, peri depth and reload.

up scope, to my surprise there's another c2 just sitting there alongside the KGV and c2 i hit earlier, engine's in working order (smoke out of the stack). 1 torp into her and she blows up nice, 1 more torp into the KGV and she goes down, 2 into the originally hit c2 and she's at the bottom too... return home to 72k+ tons sunk...

did i just get lucky or what? first time i had ever run across a task force that i could actually hit, then a battleship sailing along in a convoy at only 13 knots. all the capital ships i've sunk previously were docked :hmm: just seems like too much damage done on one patrol hehe

*edit* duh forgot i can go look at captain's logs, was 75k+ tons

cool, that was probably the best patrol sinking warship wise, i had a blast on it, just thought it was weird as my first patrol with rub 1.44

guess i just got really really lucky :arrgh!:

The one with the KG is a stock convoy I never modified. There wasn't much information on the Med convoys, so I wasn't sure what to include. I guess I should probably remove the BB, but whatever.

gotcha jason, thought it was weird, the shape of the convoy, plus the BB, your convoys look so much different, guess she sailed all the way up from the med n i hit her N of ireland, cool

okay, started my 2nd patrol, ran into that same task force with the illustrious in almost the same spot again, i was too far this time (my course was slightly different from my first patrol)

also never had 1 plane spot me, and i play at 512 TC and lower cuz i know 1024 screws up AC spawning, i got within visual range of the escorting DD's without seeing one aircraft, in broad daylight

when i do my third patrol i'll let ya know if i run into it again
