About the weather...
 

Something I've been wondering for quite some time : how is the weather dealt with ? Does the game have an unseen "weather map" with storms moving around etc... and the weather you see is dependant on where you are, or does the weather conditions you have just follow you around until a random check is made that changes them ?

(wondering because I've been having #%$~! 15m/s winds, heavy rain heavy fog for 3 days now, and I'm beginning to wonder if I should continue waiting for it to stop, or burn the last of my fuel reserve to try and reach the edge of the storm before I'm forced to head back to base)

I don't know the technical answer to your question but I can assure you that you are not alone in finding yourself in the middle of a neverending Atlantic hurricane. I'll bet that everyone who posts on this forum has resorted to foul language when describing the weather. I've learned to accept it. Murphy was an optimist after all.

I assume the French are responsible.

I made it while ago and other players posted their longest time sailing in the stromy weather.

OK, one more time !! The weather will make changes randomly
during your patrol providing you do NOT save the game.
Loading a save resets the weather changing back to 0.
(in other words, it begins again to make any changes)
SO, if you have bad weather and save, the weather will
continue to be bad. The only way it can make a change is to
keep running the game without saving till it does change.
And being a random thing, it could take awhile. Same holds
true for good weather, saving every 12 hrs. will provide calm
weather almost indefinately....

PS. On my 11th patrol now and I enjoy good weather 99% of the
time !!!

Sailing into ports or shallows near shore seems to help change the weather too. If you are near shore, sail into any shallow water area, doesn't need to be a marked port, and you will see a marked difference in the Wind speed. Sail back out to sea and all the times I've done this within 12 hours the weather has changed (though not always for the better!)
