Making new Color for IX series based on Photo
I'm thinking of making a new color skin for the IX series based off a photograph of U-995, I know that this is a VIIC/41 type sub but I like the blueish color cause it kind of blends in with the ocean!
I'm gonna do the Conning tower the same color and make wooden decks cause I read that U-Boats later in the war used wooden deck to save on steal usage here's a couple Extremely ROUGH shots to get an Idea of what it would look like http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/2564/image15is.jpg http://img322.imageshack.us/img322/1...82535787xc.jpg I've looked all over the net looking for U-Boat colors but they are hard to find due to the fact that they are all Black and White Would like an opinion on weather this would be a project worth pursuing or not also if any one has a good links to some showing U-Boats colors! Danke |
It looks quite nice, please don't stop it.
|
I´d propably use it!

The skin looks wonderful  , however note that it is not realistic, because U-995 like U-505 has been repainted various times after she was put in dry :88) , so the colour is not the original one.

Thanks I kind of thought that but I was hoping that they had repainted it the original color since they restored it? I saw a link on here one that had the original colors of kind of like a paint sample booklet of the U-boats but I can't find it.. I believe some one was making a red skin and someone else posted a link proving that they did make a red sub! I'll keep working on this one, I found some really good wood textures to use for the Deck and also some metal girders I think pictures of the real textures will look better than the game default kind of like the interior mod uses actual dials for the instruments! would love to find a link for some pictures of dials and gages for an other mod I made |
I've been waiting for someone to do a U-534 skin. :-j :rotfl:
Your skin looks good, btw. |
Good idea, but don't be fooled by the picture. The sub is probably more gray than blue in reality. I a link I found they mension "Hellgrau" or "Dunkelgrau" as the most common colours for German submarines during WWII. Check out this link. It has lot of links and information about this subject:http://uboatcolours.mysite.wanadoo-m...uk/index.jhtml
