A little advise, please....vanity
 

I'm considering a new notebook computer and was interested in knowing if the package I am looking at will work with SH3. If so I'm going to buy a second copy of SH3 for the road.

Any help wil be greatly appreciated!

Don't think you'll have any problems with a setup like that. One big issue with laptops is the lack of an adequate video card, but you should be fine with a Radeon X800 with 256 megs. Heck, if I can get SH3 to run mostly adequate on a P4 2.39GHz laptop with 768mg of ram and a Radeon 9000 with 64 megs of ram, you should be fine. :up:

That laptop sounds like top of the line. It should run anything....

PS. I will bet its NOT cheap though !!

I run SH# on a Dell 8600 with the ATI7800pro 128mg card (i think, it is a bit less powerful than the x800 for sure). The CPU is what will kill you though, try for a Pentium Mobile chip, saves you a LOT of battery life and it is the equal of the P4s. I have a PM 1.6, I think a 2.0 or 2.1 is the fastest out there ATM.

Those 17"WS laptops are HUGE! If you have any desire to carry it around with you (versus just having a "portable" desktop) then I would recommend a 15" at the most. Your listed specs have a puny 2 hours of battery life, probably less running the DVD drive or gaming. A smaller screen and a PM chip will dramatically improve the functionality and travelability of your system without sacrificing power. But if you know what you want, then that system should play SH3 without any problem.

The processor is slow. It could stand to be faster, but it'll definately play the game.

A PCIE system is about the latest technology at the moment....

LCD screens can suffer from "ghosting" because they refresh more slowly than CRT screens. For SHIII, that's not usually a big problem, but if the game has graphics that swoop and zip around a lot (like shoot-em-up's, i.e. Battlefield 2), you might get some corrupted graphics. Nothing serious, but it's not always pretty.

I have a 17" widescreen on my laptop and I must say, Size Does Matter! Mostly, it's just vanity, though. A smaller screen will save you battery life.

I've invested in a portable surge protector so that I feel better about plugging in the laptop more often, so the battery isn't in too bad of shape.
