Im going to do a Campaign in a type IIA

yup im going to do it and im not changing u-boats at all, not even a IID. Im playing D.I.D. How long do you think I will last?

:lurk:

I'm doing the same in a IID, we're up to patrol 11 in 1942. We've had a few very close calls but always make it through.
I love these type II's, they're tiny size makes them very hard to detect and hit.

Cool, some one else had my Idea. Good luck and Happy Hunting Kalach

Good luck man! I like the Type II because it is an "under-dog" and teaches you patience and conservation.

I like the big boats too, but I'd say that a MAJORITY of actual commanders learned the ropes in a Type II "Duck."

... now if we could just get someone to fix the freakin' absent water reflection... I think it would gain some popularity.

I also like the II, but its tiny torp capacity prevents me from using it more often...

Better get "we all live in a yellow submarine" for the gramaphone and look for targets 50 metres from base!

Achtung Englander 09-30-05 08:01 AM

...but you have to be really selective what you want to sink with only 5 torps and only 2 tubes

The type II has three tubes. :88)

I, too, am doing a campaign in a IID. It's been a while since I last used it, however, so I don't remember where I am in the campaign. You really have to choose your targets wisely. I also learned to never attack a tanker with no less than three torpedoes. After using the type II for a while, try one of the other subs. They seem gargantuan. :88)

I've been thinking about doing the same, it should be a great fun and stress when you've only got 5 fishes and small action range.

Good Hunting! and bring some photos back with you.

You can have some good fun with these guys hunting in coastal waters. Their small size and quick diving time make them ideal there, as long as you remember to hide quickly enough :yep:

I'll never do it, I have't got the patiance to go from 39-45 in a type II it's bad enough starting of in one, me personally will stick to VIIbs,VIICs,VIIC/41 & VIIC/42s

Ducimus 09-30-05 02:49 PM

I wonder how a IID would do in the med.

With the harbo trafic mod, i think id be all about sneaking into ports :arrgh!:

I did a campaign with a type IIA a while back when I first bought the game. I lasted all the way till around 1944 but then it just was too dam hard to aviod both DD's and planes from the sky. I sank on Janurary 17, 1944 I don't know what grid I was in though because I had been running from a destroyer for a good five hours.
It was a sad thing seeing my little U-boat go down to the bottom. I did have great luck with her, combined to nearly 200,000 tons with her, she was nice to sail but all things end right..

Mh, cool idea!

I guess i will make my next Career with a type II sub too. But i will take a D, i think... i like the tower and it can dive a bit deeper

for now i will stay on my VIIC(40) for the whole campaign. i dont like those IX boats...fat, ugly...and nothing else than torpedocarriers... :P

FAdmiral 09-30-05 03:26 PM

Type II: Too small for me (like living in sardine can)
Type VII: Just right (nice size & good specifications)
Type IX: Too big for me (sluggish & slow to manuver)
