Question on how to mod textures

I have the latest version of Photoshop version CS2 and have a question about modding these textures. When one modifies them what file format ar you saving them in/settings/compression settings?

Are you editing them in Paint Shop Pro or in Photoshop?

Is there a down and dirty quick guide on how to actually do it?

Photoshop works fine. Just save them and they will work properlly, not need to make compression settings. And save the original file just in case.
